THE SCHOOL

Chadwick International is a PreK-12 international school fully equipped with an exceptional 500,000 square feet of state-of-the-art facility that has been built in the Songdo International Business District in Incheon, South Korea.

Chadwick International’s superior educational facilities include an aquatic center with scuba diving capabilities, a gymnasium that has a seat capacity of 1,500, a 700-seat performing arts indoor theatre where students can learn to operate stage design, lighting, and sound and a television studio that allows production up to eight channels. In addition, Cisco Tele-Presence rooms with instantaneous and high resolution communication tools, connect Chadwick International to other schools across the world for joint classes and collaborative projects. These facilities permit the students to cultivate their intellectual, artistic and physical abilities based on Chadwick International’s experience-based curriculum. Moreover Chadwick International emphasizes inquiry-based learning both in and outside the classroom, and it helps students discover the joy of learning.

Chadwick International achieves its educational mission through highly experienced and dedicated faculty members from around the world. With the support of the faculty, Chadwick International is capable of a small teacher to student ratio of 1:8. The curriculum at Chadwick International is designed to meet the educational standards of the International Baccalaureate (IB) as well as the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Chadwick’s unique Outdoor Education allows the students to develop conflict-resolution abilities and leadership skills through various outdoor experiences. Meanwhile, Service Learning is not a standard community service, but teaches students how to interact with the community and problem solve on a deeper level. These co-curricular programs assist students in transferring these valuable lessons learned to the classroom as well as home life and prepare them to be contributing members of the society and leaders of tomorrow.

* The Roessler-Chadwick Foundation operates two campuses. One, located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in California, was founded in 1935 and offers a K-12 education. The other, located in Songdo, South Korea and opened in 2010, offers a Pre-K-12 education.

 Position Title: Director of Professional Learning

Reports to: Head of School            

Receives Guidance From: Principals, Associate Head for External Affairs, Assistant Head of School

 

The role is to further the current work being done around professional learning at Chadwick International including but not limited to the MOE partnerships, student teaching programs with GNUE, KNUE and other institutions, current intern program and professional development all school efforts.

 

Specifically the following aspects are included in the position:

 

Intern Program Management and Development

  • Recruit, pair and mentor interns across the school
  • Provide professional development opportunities to interns as they work to develop their professional practice
  • Support interns as they begin looking for teaching positions
  • Define expectations for mentors and support mentor teachers
  • Provide professional development related to co-teaching for mentors

 

Student Teaching Program at Chadwick International

  • Collaborate with the External Affairs Department on existing student teaching programs and potential future programs
  • Partner student teachers with CI mentor teachers
  • Coordinate the schedule for student teachers to include “workshops” from CI faculty
  • Coordinate mentor feedback for student teachers
  • Gather feedback about student teacher experiences and use feedback to improve program

 

Ministry of Education Mentoring Program

  • Work to understand the expectations of schools in Korea and the student experience
  • Partner with External Affairs to provide professional development opportunities, tours and seminars to Korean teachers and administrators

 

All School development overview to include all faculty and staff

  • Collaborate with curriculum coordinators and principals to support all school development days
  • Support current faculty on updating teaching licensing requirements
  • Coordinate all school PD calendar and budget
  • Provide resources to interns, teachers and administrators for professional development
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Head of School to allocate School Initiated Funds (SIF)

 

Center of Professional Teaching Practice

  • Set CI up to be the expert on professional teaching practice in Asia
  • Design professional development opportunities such as conferences, intensive visit opportunities, IB hosted workshops, etc.
  • Build up reputation of CI as a lead in teacher excellence

 

CI / PV Collaboration Visits

  • Establish, support and communicate the process for faculty visiting PV for collaboration pursuits
  • Ensure that alternative collaboration approaches / methods have been maximised prior to visiting the PV campus
  • Make recommendations for approving faculty requests for accessing collaboration financing

 

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills

  • Master degree and five-plus years of progressive leadership experience in related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards governing education in Korea
  •  Strong leadership skills that support program objectives; the ability to supervise, instruct, motivate, and solve problems with co-workers
  •  Strong technical skills for enhancing training and providing distance learning
  •  Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills.        

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Chadwick International offers an initial contract term of two years (renewable). The salary for the Director of Professional Learning is commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and competitive within Asia. The School pays the salary in net. Other benefits for the position include group medical insurance for the employee and his/her dependents and Life and AD&D insurance for the employee. In addition, the school offers 13% of the salary as an annuity, the end of service reserve, professional development allowance, flights home annually, relocation & settlement allowance, meal allowance, comfortable furnished housing subject to family size, allowance for utilities, discretionary leave of 5 days and maternity leave of 12 weeks..
