Director of Curriculum and Professional Learning


The role of Director of Curriculum and Professional Learning is to lead, manage and oversee curricular aspects of PreK-12 learning and to promote professional learning that aligns with all aspects of ISB’s Vision, Mission and Definition of Learning.  The Director of Curriculum and Professional Learning reports to and is evaluated by the Deputy Head of School for Learning.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead curriculum design developments throughout the school, ensuring research-based best practice is used to guide our work
  • Monitor and provide quality control for the school curriculum at macro and micro levels, with the ultimate aim of aligning all units to our mission and definition of learning
  • Work closely with the Deputy Head of School for Learning and the PreK-12 curriculum and learning specialist to shape the future of learning at ISB
  • Lead the work of the Learning Design Center in providing thought leadership and learning resources for teachers and strategic direction for the school
  • Strategically design and coordinate the school’s professional development calendar so that it aligns to our mission and definition of learning
  • Member of the school wide Leadership Team
  • Support and advise divisional principals and department heads on learning and curricular issues
  • Lead the school’s drive to align assessment practices with our mission, definition of learning and recent research
  • Manage the school’s professional development budget so that resources and finances are effectively deployed
  • Provide professional development for faculty
  • Represent the school at regional and international conferences and meetings
  • Play a key role in ensuring the school’s Strategic Learning Plan is ambitious, relevant, realistic and on track
  • Present key initiatives to the Board of Trustees and relevant subcommittees
  • Oversee the work of our Learning Evidence Teams who collect and use data related to our mission statement


Qualifications and Experience


  • Advanced degree and/or certification in curriculum and instruction
  • Experience of school/educational leadership
  • Experience of using the Understanding by Design framework
  • Experience of working within a PreK-12 setting
  • Experience of leading teams and chairing learning-focused meetings
  • Experience of program/initiative implementation
  • Skilled at using data to improve learning



  • International school experience
  • Experience of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program
