The Board of Governors of International College (IC), an international private school in Punta del Este, Uruguay, is seeking its next Principal, who will also lead IC’s Secondary school, to start in August 2021. The Board is looking for an experienced, proactive and empathetic professional to lead the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in the School’s next stage of growth.

 International College (IC) is a bilingual school that aims to lead in education at national and regional levels by enabling students to acquire XXI Century skills and achieve the best results through a rigorous and comprehensive international and Uruguayan curricula.

Role of the Principal with Head of Secondary

He/she leads the School’s academic structure while ensuring a respectful, global-minded, harmonious and prosperous environment, guided by the School’s mission, vision and values. Responsible for the Secondary school.

Reports to: Board of Governors

Collaborates with: Head of Administration

Supervises: Senior Leadership Team

Duties and Responsibilities:


Is in charge of revising and refining the School Development Plan, strategizing alongside the Board of Governors.

Revises all School policies and procedures so they are efficient, measurable and adjust to the needs of the School.

Oversees the School’s curricula in all sections: Kinder, Primary and Secondary, ensuring that they are in line with IC’s mission and vision.

Guarantees that the three pillars are ingrained within school life so as to allow for the holistic development of each member of the community.

Liaises with the SLT to safeguard the students and staff’s wellbeing.

Discovers, analyzes, implements and follows up on innovative teaching and learning methods so as to constantly improve the school’s practices.

Conserves and nurtures the school’s identity.

Monitors and evaluates the students’ achievement and progress.

Works alongside the Head of Administration to elaborate both the yearly and long term budget. Strives to ensure that the academic budget is followed.

Strengthens the bonds with the community on a local, national and international level.

Directs the daily operations of the school.

Supervises, coordinates and evaluates the academic staff.

Looks after and administers the professional development of all academic staff, taking into consideration the students and faculty’s needs.

Plans and coordinates activities with the SLT and Marketing department.

Strengthens communication between the School and the rest of the IC Community, fostering student engagement and parental commitment.

Is the School’s main representative in national and international events, activities and conferences and with community stakeholders.

Generates and maintains a good relationship with other educational institutions with the aim of strengthening teaching and learning practices in the whole region.

Carries out any other responsibility as may be required by the Board.

Head of Secondary

Leads the Secondary teaching and non-teaching staff.

Integrates Secondary’s national and international curricula, seeking to standardize its practices and goals.

Monitors student achievement and teacher performance.

Is responsible for the Secondary school budget.

Requirement: experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB).

Previous experience in a leadership position.

Bilingual (Spanish and English), preferably fluent in additional languages.

Academic Qualifications (a B. Ed. or higher).
