Derek Dalasta Appointed Next Elementary Principal at Lincoln School, Argentina

On behalf of Lincoln School’s community, Search Associates is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Derek Dalasta as the new Elementary School Principal, beginning in July 2024. This significant appointment was the result of an extensive global search.

With a career spanning 18 years, Mr. Dalasta has been a devoted teacher and leader in the U.S., the Czech Republic, South Korea, and Mexico. Currently, he holds the position of Principal at Briarcrest Elementary School in Shoreline, Washington, having served in leadership roles at two previous schools in Washington since 2017. Derek is enthusiastic about returning to international education, and this will be his first leadership role in a school overseas. He adds,

Lincoln School is renowned for cultivating a vibrant and inclusive learning environment, complemented by an exceptionally welcoming community… The school’s reputation for academic excellence, coupled with its emphasis on nurturing individual growth, aligns perfectly with my educational philosophy. I am excited to work collaboratively with the dedicated staff to create a positive impact on students and their families.

With the Dual Language Team at La Cosecha, New MexicoDerek’s journey as an educator began with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Foundations of Education at the University of Minnesota. He then earned an M.Ed. at the University of Minnesota and, subsequently, obtained his principal’s certification and a Post-Master’s Certificate of Educational Leadership from The College of New Jersey.

Dedicated to fostering an inclusive atmosphere that promotes both academic excellence and personal growth among students, Mr. Dalasta has used data, research, and reflection to lead school change and meet the individual needs of students and their families and cultivate a school culture of belonging and growth. He has also worked with dual language models both as a teacher in Guadalajara, México, and as principal in Shoreline Elementary Schools in the United States. During his time as an administrator, Mr. Dalasta led two schools through the design and construction process of a new school building and facility modernization projects. Derek says,

Some of my fondest memories as an educator involve community events where students showcase their work through talks, presentations, or demonstrations to their community about topics they researched and prepared. Witnessing their confidence, enthusiasm, and the depth of understanding during these events has been truly inspiring.

Derek will be accompanied by his wife, Ms. Sarah Caulfeild Dalasta—a highly skilled elementary school educator—and two sons, Vincent and Luca. In his free time, Derek enjoys playing “just about any sport,” namely basketball, soccer, volleyball, pickleball, and snowboarding. The whole family loves exploring new places, new foods, and making new friends. Derek says,

My family and I are thrilled to become a part of this wonderful community! The warmth and openness of the community have already made a lasting impression on me, and I am eager to become a part of a school where collaboration, respect for differences, and fostering joy in the learning process are deeply ingrained values.

Lincoln School and Search Associates wish to thank each of the candidates who expressed interest in this important position and everyone who contributed to the success of our extensive search process.
