Teach Abroad at Shanghai Concord Bilingual School

Established in 2017, Shanghai Concord Bilingual School (SCBS) is the first private bilingual school in the Huangpu District to recruit students from Years 1 to 12. Its location in the heart of the Huangpu District—a regional and cultural center—allows the school to offer an international education, catering to diverse students' needs both inside and outside the region while also promoting the development of the regional economy.

SCBS has joined hands with Concord College, a top private school in the U.K. known for academic excellence and brilliant achievements, to discuss the road to academic education in Shanghai. Concord College, with its whole-person education philosophy, is known for preparing students to enter some of the world's top universities. Its graduates have been admitted to Oxford University, Cambridge University, Imperial College, London School of Economics and other international first-class institutions of higher learning.

Currently, 853 SCBS students follow the UK national curriculum, Years 1–12 alongside the Chinese national curriculum, Years 1–9. Ninety-nine percent of the students are Chinese. With the full support of the Party Committee and the Huangpu District Government, the school adheres to the educational policies stipulated by the Huangpu District Education Bureau. Within the school’s teaching staff of 86 are two educators from North America and 28 from the U.K. In addition to offering the U.K Primary, Secondary, and A Levels, SCBS offers both the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and the International GCSE (IGCSE). SCBS also delivers a personal, social, health, and economic education program (PSHE), which helps students build self-esteem, as well as maintain mental health and good interpersonal relationships on the basis of self-respect and mutual respect.

Using a traditional House system, SCBS maintains a strong student community. All students are randomly assigned to a particular House to which they build their allegiance through a series of inter-house competitions taking place throughout the year. Competitions cover a wide range of interests, including sports, music, art, speech & debate. Conducted in the spirit of friendly rivalry, the House system is a means of developing empathy and teamwork.

Students may take part in enrichment programs covering a wide range of interests, such as sports, lunchtime activities, and after-school talent courses. Winter Concert, Sports Day, Talent Show, and Charity Sale are examples of annual events that allow students to showcase their talents and develop their confidence.

SCBS is interested in hiring teachers of diverse profiles, including couples with a non-teaching partner and newly-certified candidates. Teachers need not hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Candidates up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa.

Benefits include allowances for moving and monthly housing as well as for annual home leave airfare. Tuition is free for one dependent, provided there is vacancy. Local health insurance is fully covered. The SCBS package offers an opportunity for substantial savings!
