Michael Williams of Search Associates

Michael Williams, Michael Williams becomes the newest member of the Search Associates team with responsibility for the Western United States (California, Washington, and Oregon). In addition, with support from Search Associate Harry Deelman, Michael will organize the Search Bangkok Fairs.

In 1978, Michael earned a Bachelor of Education from Central Washington University and immediately entered elementary teaching in two different districts in Tacoma, Washington. He went on to earn his Masters in Educational Administration in 1981 from Central Washington University and served as an Elementary Principal in two districts in the Puget Sound Region. In 1989, he was assigned as the Principal of Shanghai American School where he served for two years. He then returned to the Pacific Northwest to take up a position as an Elementary Principal and Coordinator of International Programs in the Puyallup School District. In 1998, Michael returned to Shanghai where he served for nine years at Shanghai Community International Schools. During his tenure at SCIS, he saw the school through a period of growth which included an increase of over 1400 students, and helped the school managed over 30 million dollars worth of new school construction. During this time, he also served as a Board member and for two years as the President of the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools.

Michael was awarded the Distinguished Principal’s Award from both the Pierce County Principal’s Association and the Association of Puyallup School Principals. He also received the Educator of the Year Award from the Rainier Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa in 1997. He has served on numerous accreditation visiting teams for the Western Association of schools and Colleges, at a variety of schools throughout Asia.

Michael is assisted in his Tacoma, Washington office by his wife, Laurie Williams, who has over 25 years of experience as a teacher, consultant, and administrator, including 11 years in international education.
