Marie Bogat is a 1953 Oberlin College graduate with an M.A. from Hofstra University and an earned Ph.D. from The University of Alabama.

Ms. Bogat's overseas education began when she arrived in Haiti under a Smith-Mundt act Master Teacher fellowship in 1958. She subsequently became Assistant Director and then Director of the Union School, Port-au-Prince and held that title and active position from 1969 until 1989.

She has two decorations from the Government of Haiti and in July 1997 was honored by the U.S. Embassy in Haiti as an American who has made outstanding contributions to that country. Marie is a past president and member of The Association of Colombian-Caribbean American Schools (ACCAS) and served for six years on the Committee for Latin American Schools of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. She is still active in serving on SACS accreditation teams visiting schools throughout Latin America.
