Director of Information Technology

The Director of Information Technology (DoIT) is a senior, school-wide administrative position that leads the Technology Team and collaborates with senior leaders to support both operational and programme technology. This role manages NIST’s information technology infrastructure, including systems that underpin the five elements of the NIST Learning Programme, administrative operations, artificial intelligence (AI), and compliance with data protection (PDPA) requirements. The Director of Information Technology advances a shared vision for enhancing learning through technology, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring that all initiatives and resources are strategically aligned with NIST’s mission, core values, and objectives.

 Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Science, Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Degree in Education (preferred)
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Director of Information Technology in an international setting or in a comparable leadership role
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with proven skills in team building, project management, supervision, analytical thinking, decision-making, and time management
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, coaching, and developing staff
  • Extensive experience in the implementation, administration, and strategic management of school information and learning management systems, with Veracross (essential) and Toddle (preferred).

Expectations of the Role

Five Elements of the NIST Learning Programme

  • Collaborates with senior programme leaders to ensure that core educational systems, including learning management, school management, data and safeguarding platforms, effectively support the five elements of the NIST Learning Programme.
  • Leads the design and implementation of systems that improve data collection, access, and analysis for programme and whole-school decision-making.
  • Partner with Senior Programme Leadership (SPL) to evaluate and implement technology solutions aligned with the school’s mission and long-term educational priorities.
  • Align AI initiatives with NIST’s long-term goals, using them responsibly to enhance data, workflows, and decision-making in support of the five elements of the Learning Programme.
  • Oversee the IT team’s support of teachers and students in the effective and secure use of core systems.

Operational and Administrative

  • Inputs on the development and implementation of the NIST Strategic Plan.
  • Establish and assess organisational and operational plans for the IT department.
  • Develop and manage information technology projections and budgets.
  • Ensure efficient and equitable allocation of resources.
  • Work closely with the IT Team to communicate with vendors, consultants, and school departments to assure proper development, procurement, installation, and operation of IT equipment and services.
  • Work collaboratively with administrators, staff and faculty when developing, improving, and implementing new applications/subscriptions.
  • Policy development and governance, setting standards for AI ethics, data usage, and cybersecurity.

Infrastructure and Systems

  • Direct long-term planning and implementation of IT systems and solutions that serve both academic and operational needs.
  • Ensure effective use of core systems, including Veracross and Toddle, aligning them with programme and operational goals
  • Serve as NIST’s Data Protection Officer (DPO), leading PDPA compliance and IT security planning, including system architecture, software licensing, policies, protocols, and trainingReview and update IT policies and procedures to reflect best practices and compliance requirements
  • Manage projects and portfolios to deliver IT and AI initiatives on time and within budget
  • Oversee enterprise architecture and cloud technologies, including integration with Google Cloud and AI services
  • Evaluate and manage vendor relationships, including contracts, interoperability, and the selection of AI tools and platforms
  • Ensure infrastructure readiness for AI, including computing, storage, and integration planning
  • Strengthen data management and analytics capacity through governance, dashboards, and predictive insights.
