AAS is a Pre-K to 12 school offering a well-rounded program to students of all nationalities. We are located at the foot of Vitosha Mountain near Pancharevo Village in an area with beautiful scenery and new homes. Our grounds (internal and external) are purpose built and in the words of guests, students and staff - stunning). We are 15-25 min from downtown Sofia.
Facilities
The Anglo-American School of Sofia (AAS Sofia) is located on a spacious 7–8 hectare campus at the foothills of Mount Vitosha in the Pancharevo area. Its purpose-built facilities include the Vitosha Building for Middle and High School students—equipped with modern classrooms, interactive technology, and fully outfitted science laboratories—alongside dedicated Elementary spaces designed for younger learners. Creative expression is centered in the Rila Renaissance Centre, which houses a 350-seat theater, drama spaces, music practice rooms, design labs, and visual art studios. For athletics and recreation, the campus offers indoor gymnasiums, expansive outdoor playing fields, sports courts, and green open areas. Community life and dining are supported by multi-purpose cafeterias and a student café, providing freshly prepared meals and comfortable spaces to study and socialize.
Position Qualifications
1. MAIN FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The MS/HS Principal will provide visionary leadership to staff, students, and community members from both the Middle and High School. The MS/HS Principal will supervise and facilitate the daily operations of the Middle and High School, working collaboratively with other AAS administrators, teachers, and support staff to establish academic goals, manage curricula, and division financial resources
The MS/HS Principal will provide instructional leadership and administration that motivates teaching and supporting personnel to strive for superior performance, ensuring the best possible opportunities for student growth and development, both educationally and personally. This position interfaces with all education staff, principals, and the Director on a regular basis, makes official presentations to parents, faculty, students, and the Board, and serves as an active member of the school leadership team.

3. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR HOLDING OF THE POSITION:
- Degree: Minimum of a Master’s degree in Educational Administration or a related field.
- Teaching Experience: At least five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience. Three (3) or more years in Administrator capacity is required.
- Leadership Experience: Previous educational leadership and administrative experience in a Middle School or High School setting.
- International Setting: Previous experience working within an international school environment is highly desired.
- Skills & Competencies: Strong organizational, public relations, and time management skills.
- Skills and ability to manage information systems to track school progress.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including the capacity to facilitate difficult conversations.
- Proven ability to recruit, select, and retain high-quality professional teachers.
- Ability to manage divisional budgets and maintain strict fiscal control.

4. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
A. Instructional Supervision and Leadership:
- Supervision & Evaluation: Formally supervise and evaluate the performance of all assigned MS/HS staff, including assistant principal, teachers, counselors, administrative and instructional assistants.
- Instructional Monitoring: Regularly monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that classroom activities align with intended learning outcomes, using data-driven findings to guide corrective actions.
- High-Quality Feedback: Regularly observe employee performance, record observations, conduct evaluation conferences, and provide clear, actionable feedback to ensure high-quality instruction and continual improvement.
- Resource Management: Provide necessary instructional resources, materials, and support systems to assist teaching staff in accomplishing their curriculum goals and fostering lifelong learning.
- Performance Expectations: Clearly define, communicate, and promote expectations for high-level staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, and professional communication. Recognize excellence and achievement among staff and students.
- Professional Growth: Confer regularly with faculty regarding their professional growth, working collaboratively to develop, track, and accomplish individual and school-wide improvement goals.
- Curriculum Alignment: Research, remain current with, and promote educational research to lead the campus-level committee in planning, executing, and evaluating the instructional program.
B. School Climate and Student Management:
- Environment: Foster a positive, safe, effective, and collaborative learning and working environment.
- Pastoral Care: Support all students’ social and emotional well-being through pastoral care and interventions. Ensure student supervision throughout the student day, including extracurriculars.
- Operations: Collaborate with operations teams (facilities, transportation, security, etc.) to maintain and improve procedures and systems that support a safe, secure, clean, and efficient school environment.
- Discipline Management: Collaborate with faculty, students, and parents to develop and maintain a student discipline management system that promotes positive student behavior, ensuring that school rules are uniformly, equitably, and fairly applied in accordance with Board Policy and Student/Parent Handbook.
- Student Support: Consult regularly with the Student Support Teams to develop customized interventions based on individual student needs, helping parents and teachers understand child development and its impact on behavior.
- Admissions: Collaborate with the Admissions Office in screening, evaluating, and placing new students into the MS/HS program.
C. Personnel and Organizational Management:
- Recruitment: Actively participate in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, orientation, and assignment of MS/HS staff.
- Staff Recommendations: Make appropriate recommendations to the HR Department regarding staff assignments, promotions, retention, or non-renewal.
- Fiscal Control: Develop and manage the MS/HS campus budget based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, and personnel requirements; ensure all programs operate strictly within budget limits and maintain accurate fiscal records.
- Co-Curricular Oversight: Collaborate with appropriate staff to provide safe and effective MS/HS extracurricular and student activity programs.
- Records: Compile, maintain, and file all physical and digital records and reports required by AAS policy.
D. Community and Board Relations:
- Community Engagement: Seek the active involvement of staff, parents, students, and community representatives in appropriate aspects of school operations and school improvement planning.
- Mission Articulation: Articulate the school’s mission and vision to the community, demonstrating an awareness of school-community needs and initiating activities to meet them.
- Conflict Resolution: Ensure the effective, timely, and equitable resolution of conflicts among students, parents, and staff.
E. Other Professional Duties:
- Cooperate and comply with the Faculty and Staff Handbook, Student and Parent Handbook, Emergency Procedures Handbook, Code of Professional Conduct, Child Protection Plan, and the Board Policy Handbook.
- Attend all required meetings with leadership, staff, students, and/or parents.
- Act as a strong, ethical role model, promoting a positive and professional image for AAS in the greater community.
- Be proactive with respect to institutional change, school policies, and constructive feedback.
Salary and Benefits
The Anglo-American School of Sofia offers a competitive regional compensation package that includes a salary paid in Euro, enhanced by a relatively low cost of living and tax-exempt status for overseas hires during their first five years of employment.
Comprehensive benefits for internationally recruited faculty include school-provided housing with partial (50%) utility coverage, annual home-leave round-trip airfare, shipping allowances, and coverage of visa and work permit fees.

The lengh of the initial contract for Administrators is 3 years, with a starting date August 1st, 2027.
