I write to let you know that École Mondiale World School in Mumbai, India has selected Diane Lewthwaite as its next Principal/ Head of School, effective this coming August 2017.

Diane comes to this position from Fukuoka International School in Japan, where she has served as Head of School since 2011.  Like EMWS, FIS is a pre-K through Grade 12 IB World School.  FIS is a small school of approximately 230 students but also includes Fukuoka International Community School which service the English language developmental needs of approximately 600 Japanese students and Japanese teachers of English in Japanese schools.

Diane has served as a leader in two other IB World Schools: Bonn International School, where she served as secondary principal from 2003-2011, and New International School of Thailand (NIST), where she served as academic vice principal from 2000-2003, and where she launched her international schools career as an IB Humanities teacher in 1993.

Diane originates from New Zealand, where she earned her BA from the University of Canterbury and her Diploma of Teaching (Distinction) from Christchurch Teachers College.  She received her MA in Educational Management from the University of Bath in the UK.

École Mondiale is a unique IB World school in India, delivering three Baccalaureate (lB) Programmes - the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). It is a coeducational school catering to the needs of the citizens of Mumbai, the diplomatic and consular corps, multinational companies and the expatriate community living in Mumbai. The programme, from Playschool to Grade 12, is delivered in English.

École Mondiale is located in the prominent “Bollywood” suburb of Juhu, 30-35 minutes from the city centre and close to wide sandy beaches and shopping centres. The school utilizes leadership and management applications widely used in other international schools and recognized by International Educational Associations. It is governed by a Board and assisted by an Advisory Council comprising eminent men and women

Curriculum  & Methodology

Our curriculum is designed to be thought-provoking, relevant and international in its nature.

Much of the teaching is based on the assumption that understanding is a fundamental requirement for all learning to take place. Much of the work is therefore based on hands-on experience and research skills, where the role of the teacher becomes that of a facilitator. At École Mondiale, the students take an active part in their own learning. They are encouraged to use their own initiative and to develop into independent learners with a strong desire to think critically.

Our Team

The school senior management team consists of the Principal, Head of Secondary and Head of Primary. The school has also appointed a mix of highly qualified expatriate and Indian Heads of Departments and teachers, selected after an extensive search process to ensure the best fit for the programmes we offer.

École Mondiale is accredited by CIS (Council of International Schools), and a member of ECIS (European Councils of International Schools); TAISI (The Association of International Schools of India) and is an Associate Member of N.E.S.A. (Near East South Asia) Council of Overseas Schools.

Qualifications/Experience Sought

• The Principal of École Mondiale World School will have previous experience in successful leadership, preferably as Principal of a proprietary school or equivalent, in an International School environment;
• Experience and knowledge of the International Baccalaureate programmes is important;
• Experience with accreditation processes, e.g. CIS, IB accreditation procedures etc is a preferred advantage;
• A post graduate qualification (Masters) is preferred

Compensation and Benefits

École Mondiale is seeking a candidate who believes in a long term tenure at one place. The remuneration package is commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and is competitive within India.  Benefits include furnished housing, utility allowance, a school driver, comprehensive medical insurance, life and disability allowance, annual home leave, airfares at the beginning and end of contract, settling in allowance, shipping in and out allowance and professional development opportunities. Up to two school-aged children receive free tuition. Airfares and insurance coverage applies to the Principal’s spouse and up to two dependent children.
