Dear Search Associates Colleagues,

On behalf of the Garden International School (GIS) search committee, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Peter Derby-Crook MBE as the new Principal of Garden International School (GIS), commencing August 2024. In his recent message to the GIS community, Mr. BK Gan (President/CEO Taylor’s Schools) wrote the following about Mr. Derby-Crook’s appointment:

Mr. Derby-Crook brings with him a wealth of experience, with a career spanning over 38 years in international education and school leadership. His impressive track record includes being in senior positions of Principal/CEO, Senior Vice-President and Director of Education in some of the world's most esteemed educational institutions and schools across various countries including Singapore, Indonesia, the UAE and Oman.

Peter places a high priority on student and faculty well-being and believes in cultivating a strong sense of community with all stakeholders. He has previously led accreditation organizations and delivered thoughtful presentations on current educational topics. He has a deep understanding of the power of good education and has a clear vision and accompanying strategies to deliver a quality educational program. In his time at Tanglin Trust in Singapore, he also managed large capital and building projects while enabling students to achieve outstanding academic results.

Mr. Derby-Crook has a BEd. (Hons) from Manchester University where he majored in Philosophy, History and Reading, a Dip.Ed in Computing from Oxford Brookes University, and a M.Ed from the University of New England, Australia.

He will be accompanied by his wife Maggie to GIS, with whom they have 4 independent children, Keating, Spencer, Jennifer and Naomi.

In accepting the role of Principal at GIS, Mr. Derby-Crook stated the following:

I am excited and delighted to be appointed to lead this highly esteemed school (which I have been familiar with for a number of years).

My great enthusiasm for the post was fueled further during my recent interview visit, where I met groups of talented children, staff, parents, and Board members who both welcomed and challenged me and my suitability for this prestigious role.

Whilst there, I sensed the dynamic ambition of the community and a strong desire to be happy and the best you can be. I intend to work closely and collaboratively with the community to build on all that has been achieved in previous years and to be the best we possibly can be!

Maggie and I look forward with keen anticipation to living in ‘Malaysia, Truly Asia’ and to establishing our new home with you.
