An American School with an International Community

The Village School (Village) has evolved into a vibrant institution serving approximately 1,500 pre-K–12 students. Originally launched as a small, private nursery school in 1966, Village has been consistently ranked as one of the most diverse private schools--#1 in Houston and #2 in Texas. While small class sizes allow for personalized teaching and a strong community feel, Village is part of the Nord Anglia Education system, a global campus that takes the whole person into consideration in the following:

  • The Global Campus online platform where faculty, staff and students connect, learn and interact with one another through collaborative projects.
  • Extensive continuing education opportunities allowing staff and students to expand their knowledge and grow within the company.
  • A Dedicated Wellness Department focused on staff safety and wellbeing.

Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States and one of the fastest-growing hubs of business, technology, and innovation. It is also one of the most diverse cities. The low cost of living, year-round good weather, incredible food scene, and abundance of outdoor activities make Houston the perfect place to try new things, grow your career, or raise a family.

Because Village is located in Houston’s Energy Corridor, close to world-renowned universities and energy, healthcare, and technology companies, teachers and students can pursue continuing education, internships, and mentoring programs with NASA, the Houston Healthcare system, Rice University, and more.

The campus, 28 acres in a residential area of West Houston, encompasses more than 336,000 square feet of facilities. Village takes great pride in its new athletic facilities, some of the finest in Houston. The school has opened a new turfed field with stadium-style bleachers and a press box, six tennis courts, an eight-lane track surrounding the turfed field, a 1,000-seat indoor gymnasium, and a 25-meter indoor aquatic center.

The Village School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and fully accredited by the Texas Association of Accredited Private Schools. In addition to offering the IB Diploma Programme, the school delivers an innovative curriculum based around national and international standards, including the U.S. Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards, to students from more than 80 countries who share a commitment to high levels of achievement and global awareness. The school’s dedicated and caring staff of 280 prepares students for success at the most prestigious colleges and universities throughout the world. Boarding is available.

As part of the Nord Anglia Education system, Village students and teachers collaborate on innovative and experiential academic and extracurricular programs, events and activities with other students and teachers from across the globe—both in-person (when it’s safe!) and virtually. The school describes unique offerings:

  • A partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that allows students to invent the future through STEAM-focused workshops and challenges
  • A collaboration with The Juilliard School that provides a world-class arts opportunity for every student to unlock their imagination and let their creativity flow
  • The Entrepreneurship Diploma, a cutting-edge, innovative and rigorous education course that builds the critical-thinking skills needed to navigate and succeed in an ever-changing world
  • Innovation Day, The Village School’s flagship annual event where students showcase their original solutions to tackle real-world problems like contactless tutoring and delivery

Over the years, Village students have done well in Science Bowl, a highly competitive event where teams of high school students compete to solve technical problems and respond to questions from all branches of science and math.

Village offers 12 different sports over the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons. The coaching staff works hard to instill character and teach valuable life lessons while training students to compete at the highest level. By sixth grade, students may join a sports team. The middle school participates in the Houston Junior Preparatory Conference, and as a member of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, the high school is able to compete for district and state championships.

Village provides a rich program for visual and performing arts. Theater education, starting in grade school, builds a foundation of sequenced skills that helps students express themselves with confidence and poise. The Visual Arts Education Program, which includes drawing, painting, pottery, sculpting, photography, and digital media, supports the integration of art and visual learning throughout the curriculum to not only enhance lessons but to also improve critical thinking skills.

Village will consider hiring candidates of all profiles, including exceptional newly certified teachers and experienced teachers lacking certification. Teachers need not hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Candidates must be either be U.S. citizens or have the ability to work in the U.S. Teachers need not hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. The benefits package includes a moving allowance and a tuition reduction for dependents. Worldwide health insurance—including life and dental—is offered, with the employee paying a percentage. This package allows for good savings, and there are local employment opportunities for non-teaching partners.

Professional development opportunities are provided. The school says,

The Village School is committed to investing in the people who invest so much of themselves in our students’ futures. . . . We cannot offer academic, social, and personal success for every student without our amazing teachers and staff. . . We do that by offering seamless support, smaller class sizes, stability, global collaboration, and education opportunities in one of the best cities to live, work and play in the United States.
