International School Excellence in the Heart of Africa

Founded in 2013, Trident College Solwezi is blazing a trail to bring world-class, international education to the North-Western Province of Zambia. Originally created to serve the local copper mining community, this passion project of the Pascall family has grown into the international boarding school of choice in Zambia and a firm option for families across Southern Africa seeking an elite boarding experience. The strength of the school lies in its diversity, reflecting modern, progressive African society. The international school fosters community responsibility and global citizenship within a safe and inclusive environment, with the holistic education of each child at its heart. College pupils are offered a multitude of academic, sporting, cultural and community service experiences both within the classroom and beyond, designed to engage, enlighten, and empower the leaders of tomorrow. The complete and rounded education provided by the College has proven a distinguishing feature in university applications, and graduates have secured places in top universities around the world.

The teach abroad experience offered at Trident College is best suited for the adventurous, outdoor enthusiast. Situated some 30km from Zambia’s border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Trident College campus must surely be one of the most unique in the world. Lying in a stunningly beautiful 113-hectare game reserve, the surrounding area is home to a plethora of wildlife. The game park and various local waterfalls and dams form a stunning backdrop for the College’s extensive outdoor education programme, including camps, learning walks, mountain bike races on over 50km of purpose-built trails, fishing, photography, kayaking and rowing.

The campus itself consists of excellent facilities, including modern science and ICT labs, a fully stocked Design and Technology workshop and modern, spacious, classrooms equipped with projectors and sound. The stunning new auditorium, due to be completed in October at a cost of nearly $2 million dollars, will house state of the art music and drama facilities and hold over 500 people. The school has outstanding sports facilities. Pupils partake in co-curricular activities four days a week, following academic classes, and while the emphasis is on breadth of experience, the College does support elite athletes in a variety of sports.

The highly active, outdoor lifestyle led by staff and pupils at Trident College is complimented by the region’s temperate climate. The temperature varies by only a few degrees throughout the year, hovering around 25 to 30°C during the day with significantly cooler nights. Nearby, the largest conurbation in the region, Solwezi, provides all the modern amenities expected in a modern African town. The town is characteristic of rural Zambia- safe, with welcoming, interested locals and a palpable sense of community. The local 18-hole golf course offers supreme sport and leisure facilities. Further afield, the 22400 km² Kafue National Park, a wildlife paradise, is approximately six hours’ drive, though areas such as Kalumbila and West Lunga Conservation Project offer safari experiences significantly closer to home. Lusaka, the nation’s capital, is a one-hour flight away.

Trident College is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa, Cambridge International and the Independent Schools Association of Zambia. Teaching the Cambridge International Curriculum from Lower Secondary to IGCSE and A-Level, the school is served by three feeder prep schools, located throughout Zambia. The closest, Trident Prep Solwezi, is situated on the nearby Kansanshi Golf Estate. The College staff are comprised of some seventeen local Zambian teachers and twelve international teachers, mirroring the commitment to a mix of teaching overseas and celebration of local culture seen in the student population. The international teaching staff is represented by teaching faculty from seven different nationalities worldwide and pupils from 17 different nationalities.

Trident College seeks to hire outstanding local and overseas teachers, with various levels of expertise depending on staffing needs. Commitment to the life of the wider school, including co-curricular and boarding duty is essential. Candidates wishing to teach abroad must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and a valid post-graduate teaching qualification, as well as a teaching license in their home country. In line with Trident’s strong commitment to child protection, all successful candidates must submit a valid criminal background check. There is no age limit on visas, though it should be noted that local work opportunities for non-teaching spouses are limited.

Teaching staff are housed within our boarding campus in spacious and fully-furnished accommodation, which is relatively modern and set in large gardens either within the staff village or the wider campus, depending on the role. Support in terms of childcare, gardening, and cleaning is readily available locally, and extremely affordable.

Overall, for overseas teaching candidates, the school provides an attractive remuneration package which depends on teaching experience and qualifications. The package includes a relocation allowance, tax-free gratuity, flights at the beginning and end of each two-year contract, and school fee remissions. Ensuring a competitive salary package reinforces Trident College’s goal of developing a community of staff who wish to stay for a longer period beyond their initial contract and commit to building an educational legacy for the local area and beyond.
