International Teaching Near the Stunning Wadi Hanifa

King Faisal School (KFS) is a day school located in the Diplomatic Quarter of the nation’s capital Riyadh,10 minutes from downtown and 25 minutes from the airport.  A secure enclave for embassies, the Diplomatic Quarter is bordered by the extraordinary natural habitat of Wadi Hanifa. The school offers a co-ed environment for kindergarten classes and then provides single sex education for boys from 6 to 18 years old. The school is currently developing a girls’ school.

Accredited by Cognia, KFS is authorized to deliver the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma Programmes. Currently enrolled are 1,417 students, most of whom are Saudi, with 9% from North America, and 1% from the U.K. The teaching staff of 140 represents 14 nationalities, including 20 Saudi Arabian educators.

By registering for the Sports Academy, students in different age categories enjoy KFS’s state-of-the-art facilities to develop their “technical and behavioral capabilities . . . according to international standards.” These include a beautiful outdoor field encircled by a track, an indoor gymnasium with a basketball court and a swimming pool.

Class excursions and field trips related to the Unit of Inquiry studied in class are planned regularly. The school’s handbook says, “Students benefit from first-hand experiences which enable them to make sense of the world around them. Trips are a way of bringing the program to life and into reality. Trips are selected to provide opportunities for team building and cooperative work. The students experience independence in a supportive environment.”

KFS is interested in hiring certified, single and married teachers, including those with a non-teaching spouse. The school will consider interns as well as newly-certified candidates. IB experience is preferable. Teachers must hold their academic degree in the subject they will be teaching.

The benefits package includes furnished housing or a housing allowance equivalent to 25% of one’s base salary. A moving allowance and roundtrip airfare to “the point of origin” is also provided. The tuition benefit of 75% is applicable to girls in kindergarten only as well as boys at any grade level. KFS provides professional development opportunities and local health coverage that includes dental. Worldwide coverage—including emergency evacuation—would be provided in emergency cases. Other bonuses include daily breakfast, an End-of-Service Benefit, and a transportation allowance. This package could amount to tremendous savings or the opportunity for a family of four to live on one salary. Furthermore, there are local employment opportunities for non-teaching spouses.
