International Teaching Opportunities in Tokyo

Yoyogi International School is a warm, family-focused community serving students ages one and a half through 12 years old, hailing from 35 different countries. The school is located in the heart of Tokyo, but it sits adjacent to one of the largest parks in the city. Fully accredited by the Council of International Schools, Yoyogi International School draws its curriculum and pedagogy from both the U.K. national curriculum and U.S. state standards. This academic year, the school has been working towards International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme candidacy.

Located in the center of the Shibuya ward of Tokyo, Yoyogi International School comprises two campuses only 300 meters apart: the Preschool/Kindergarten and the Primary School. Located on the same street, the two sites rest in front of the largest park in Tokyo—a perfect location for enriching learning experiences, sports, and cultural activities.

Yoyogi International School is a pre-K–Grade 5 day school that currently enrolls 210 students, 30% of whom are Japanese and 30% of whom are from North America and the U.K. The staff of 27 includes five Japanese teachers and 19 from North America and the U.K.

Bright and spacious classrooms are able to accommodate many educational resources, and the library houses 3,000 books from early years books to classic works of literature. The Primary/Kindergarten campus includes an outside playground and an indoor gymnasium with basketball hoops, balance beams, and other physical education equipment.

After school, students can enjoy ballet, soccer, tennis, Tae Kwon Do, and hip-hop lessons. Language classes are also offered: English; English as a Second Language; and Japanese Afternoon—a class about Japanese language, traditions, and customs, designed for students to feel more connected to their host country.

Yoyogi International School prefers to hire certified singles, teaching couples, and interns. They will also consider exceptional newly-certified candidates. All teachers must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Certified candidates up to the age of 65 may obtain a work visa.

Benefits include annual airfare and either school-provided housing or a monthly housing allowance. Also provided is a monthly transportation allowance. The school covers 70% of national health insurance fees. Yoyogi International School provides professional development for its staff.
