Magen David Academy: A Thriving Center of Excellence, Innovation, and Community in Panama City

Discover exceptional international teaching opportunities at Magen David Academy (MDA), a leading international Jewish day school in vibrant Panama City. Serving students from Early Childhood through Grade 12, MDA offers educators the opportunity to work in a dynamic, forward-thinking environment defined by academic excellence, innovation, and strong community connections. With continually evolving facilities, an outstanding geographic location, and a commitment to meaningful, real-world learning, MDA provides an enriching professional home for educators eager to make a lasting impact. Central to the MDA experience is a deeply connected school culture—one that values relationships, celebrates diversity, and fosters authentic partnerships among students, families, faculty, and the wider community.

Panama City offers an exceptional quality of life for international educators. One of Latin America’s most globally connected cities, it is known for its safety, modern infrastructure, cultural richness, and ease of travel throughout the Americas. The city’s bilingual and multicultural character aligns seamlessly with MDA’s global outlook, making it an ideal destination for educators seeking both professional fulfillment and a rewarding lifestyle for themselves and their families.

MDA’s contemporary campus is purposefully designed to inspire collaboration, creativity, and engagement. Bright, spacious classrooms and flexible learning spaces support innovative teaching practices, while age-appropriate Early Childhood environments encourage exploration and play. Technology-rich innovation centers, a full athletics complex, and dedicated spaces for visual and performing arts further enhance the learning experience. A kosher dining hall, secure outdoor recreation areas, and strong emphasis on student wellness reflect the school’s commitment to safety, balance, and holistic development.

Fully accredited by AdvancEd/Cognia, MDA enrolls approximately 460 students, the majority of whom are Panamanian. Educators at MDA join a collaborative and supportive faculty community that values professional growth, innovation, and shared purpose. With nearly 60% of the teaching staff from Panama, local expertise and international perspectives come together to create a rich and inclusive learning environment.

MDA is deeply committed to academic excellence, whole-child development, and global citizenship. Its rigorous and dynamic educational program integrates U.S. and international academic standards with strong Spanish language instruction, Jewish values education, and a robust STEAM focus. Signature offerings include:

  • Innovation & Technology Integration: Advanced Placement (AP) opportunities, engineering design, and digital literacy embedded across grade levels.
  • Holistic Arts Programs: Music, fine arts, drama, and dance taught by specialized faculty in dedicated creative spaces.
  • Athletics & Wellness: Competitive sports, physical education, fitness programs, and recreational clubs that promote teamwork and healthy habits.
  • Experiential Learning: Project-based learning, service learning, leadership development, and real-world application opportunities
  • Early Childhood Excellence: A Reggio-inspired EC program that nurtures curiosity, independence, foundational literacy, and social-emotional growth.

Beyond the classroom, students participate in a vibrant range of clubs, cultural events, holiday celebrations, and community initiatives that strengthen identity, character, and a strong sense of belonging.

MDA seeks certified international teaching candidates of diverse profiles—including newly certified teachers—and would consider couples with a non-teaching partner and interns interested in an overseas teaching experience. Candidates must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching, but there is no age limit for teachers to obtain a work visa in Panama.

In addition to a non-taxed salary, overseas teaching benefits include allowances for settling in, annual airfare, and monthly housing. Tuition is covered fully for one child and 50% for the second. Local health insurance is covered through PALIC, a local insurance company with an international plan that covers emergencies outside of Panama. MDA provides professional development opportunities for its staff.
