On behalf of the Board of Directors of Carmel School Hong Kong, Search Associates is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Nitsan Segev-Levi as Principal, beginning in August 2027. She will succeed Mrs. Rachel Friedmann, who has provided remarkable leadership to Carmel School for the past 18 years.
Mrs. Segev-Levi has been an integral part of the Carmel community since 2017 and currently serves as Head of Elementary and Head of Jewish Life. With extensive experience across the school, three children enrolled at Carmel, and a deep commitment to its mission, she brings a strong understanding of the school community along with a clear vision for its future. Reflecting on her appointment, Mrs. Segev-Levi shares:
Carmel is a big part of who I am. After nearly 10 years here, this school is my home, and I care deeply about our students, teachers, and families. What excites me most is leading Carmel into its next chapter - keeping our high academic standards, strengthening our Jewish values and connection to Israel, and building a strong, united community where we raise kind, caring, and good human beings - the kind of people we all want in our society…I am truly honored to take on this role to make Carmel a warm, safe, and wonderful place for our children.
The transition will be supported by a close collaboration between Mrs. Friedmann, Mrs. Segev-Levi, and the Board over the next eleven months, helping ensure continuity for students, families, and faculty. Mr. Jonathan Zeman, Carmel’s Chairman of the Board, highlighted Mrs. Segev-Levi’s experience and connection to the community: "Mrs. Segev-Levi brings high academic professionalism, a proven record in Jewish education, and deep familiarity with our families and ethos."
Before joining Carmel School, Mrs. Segev-Levi held educational leadership positions in Israel, including Deputy Head of High School and Pedagogical Manager at Ort Binyamina. Her approach to educational leadership is grounded in the words of Proverbs 22.6: “Educate a child according to his way.”
In challenging times, when decisions are tough, this Jewish wisdom brings me back to what truly matters: behind every child is a story that isn’t always seen, but given the right approach, every child can learn and succeed. It reminds me to slow down, look at each student individually, and stay patient. As educational leaders, our main job is to meet students where they are, keep them safe and proud of who they are, and give them confidence.
Mrs. Segev-Levi holds Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees from Oranim College of Education and began her career in Special Education. Her breadth of experience, longstanding connection to Carmel, and commitment to student-centered education will provide a strong foundation as she prepares to lead the school into its next chapter.
