Ms. Jessica Johnson Appointed Primary School Assistant Principal and PYP Coordinator at BMIS

Search Associates is pleased to announce, on behalf of Mr. Adrian Moody, Director of Bishop Mackenzie International School (BMIS) in Lilongwe, Malawi, the appointment of Ms. Jessica Johnson as the next Primary School Assistant Principal and PYP Coordinator, beginning August 2026.

Reflecting on her new role, Ms. Johnson shared:

I am excited to join the dynamic, inclusive, and community-focused environment at Bishop Mackenzie International School. Through collaboration and partnership with staff, families, and the broader community, I look forward to contributing to a nurturing school culture that not only celebrates diversity but also fosters an environment where lifelong learning is cherished. I believe together we can cultivate a vibrant educational experience that inspires our students to explore their passions and engage with the world around them. With a deep love for the continent of Africa, I am excited to return to this region of the world that holds a very special place in my heart.

Ms. Johnson currently serves as Lower School Vice Principal and Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator at Hangzhou International School, China. She has also held a senior leadership role at both Harare International School, Zimbabwe and Kodaikanal International School, India, and taught in the United States, Tanzania, India, and Zimbabwe.

Family!Throughout her career, Jessica has focused on empowering teachers to create engaging learning environments that spark curiosity, promote equitable access to opportunities, and nurture students as global citizens. She notes that the words of Nelson Mandela have been a powerful guide in her work:

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world," has profoundly shaped my journey as a career educator. It serves as a daily reminder of the transformative potential of education, not only for individuals but for entire communities.

Ms. Johnson holds a B.A. in Secondary Education from Southeastern University and an M.Ed. from Emporia State University, both in the United States. She is currently pursuing her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education.

Jessica, who will be joined in Malawi by her partner Bruce, enjoys traveling and exploring new places in her free time. Acquiring unique treasures in local markets often informs her decorating and home interior projects. Her passion for birdwatching and photography inspire her to capture their beauty wherever she wanders. She adds,

I also believe that nothing beats a good cup of coffee, and my husband and I make a point to sample local brews wherever we go. Beyond these activities, I cherish spending as much quality time as possible with my three adult children.

Search Associates extends sincere thanks to all candidates and to everyone who contributed to the successful search for BMIS’s next Primary School Assistant Principal and PYP Coordinator.
