New Director Appointed in Rwanda

Senior Associate Ralph Jahr announced that the board of directors and Search Committee of the International School (ISKR) in Kigali, Rwanda have named Mr. Seamus Hennessy as the new director, beginning in July 2016.

Mr. Hennessy is currently Deputy Director of The International School of Gabon Ruban Vert in Libreville, Gabon, a position he has held since 2013. Prior to his current position, he was Deputy Head of the British School in Lome, Togo. He has held other administrative positions in India and in the British Virgin Islands and taught in the U.S., the U.A.E., Saudi Arabia, France, and in his native Ireland. Mr. Hennessy holds a Master of Arts in International Education from Oxford Brookes University and a B.A. and Higher Diploma degrees from University College Cork in Ireland.

ISKR began in 2009 with 15 students whose parents, mainly Dutch and American, sought an American-style, non-denominational education of the highest standards for their children. Five years later, 180 preK-12 students, representing over 30 nationalities, attend the school. To accommodate them, ISKR moved in 2014 to a campus in Nyarutarama, with larger, light-filled classrooms, a self-contained preschool, a new science lab, and special-use facilities for art and drama. The expanded library and media lab, on an upper storey, overlook the beautiful hills and Lake of Kigali. A new elementary playground and a full-sized basketball court will soon grace the campus. The school, easy to reach, safe and quiet, is in a residential area where most students live, with a main entrance on a quiet road off the main street. ("History" "ISKR Facilities").

Recognized and accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), ISKR offers the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) to its elementary students and AP courses to its high school students. Electives for students include art, music, drama, photography, computers, and Rwandan studies. Ever-increasing options for after-school activities include sports, singing, traditional Rwandan dance, drumming, Explorers, board games, yoga, and many others ("History").

Search Associates wishes Mr. Hennessy and the International School of Kigala, Rwanda a wonderful collaboration.
