New Director in Madagascar Hailed by Search Associates

Senior Associates Ralph Jahr and Nick Kendell and the Board of the American School of Antananarivo (ASA) have announced the appointment of Mrs. Caroline Brokvam (at left with husband Staale) as New Director, beginning in July 2016.

Caroline is currently in her fifth year at Copenhagen International School as Head of City Campus and Senior School Principal. Prior to this, she served as senior administrator in Australia as well as Assistant Principal of the high school at the International School of Manila from 2005-2009. Her impressive credentials include a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Western Australia along with a Bachelor of Arts First Class. In 2006, Caroline earned a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education from Edith Cowan University. In addition, she holds a Certificate in International School Leadership from the Principal's Training Center.

Founded in 1969, ASA,with its American-based curriculum, serves students from nursery school through twelfth grade. The school, accredited by the Middle States Association in 2011 and authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP) school, is located on the island of Madagascar on a two-acre site in Ambodivoanjo-Ivandry, Antananarivo. Currently, 220 students of twenty-seven nationalities attend the school. Twenty-eight full-time teachers are joined by three part-time teachers and ten learning assistants to ensure that students with special needs, particularly second language learners, are fully supported. At every grade level in this French-speaking country, French is a required subject. By the end of twelfth grade, students are prepared for the Advanced Placement exam in the language ("About").

The campus comprises a main building and twenty-five classrooms within several interconnected villas, all wired for the internet. The site includes a library with 10,000 volumes, a music room, a science laboratory, a media center, four computer labs, a conference room, a large playing field, and basketball court. Students can take part in athletics, dance, art, and a variety of music programs ("About").

Search Associates congratulates Mrs. Brokvam and her husband Staale as she prepares to take the role as New Director of the American School of Antananarivo in 2016.
