Overseas Teaching at AIS Jakarta

The Australian Independent School, (AIS) creates a teach-abroad experience where inclusive education and community development are embraced. AIS was founded in 1996 in response to a demand for quality inclusive education within international schools in Indonesia. AIS has created an outstanding learning environment for its students to become capable, confident, and socially aware global citizens. All students at AIS are accepted regardless of color, religion, ethnicity, or ability. The community of staff and students exercise a sense of ownership and responsibility for the school, which they all regard as ‘their school’.

AIS Jakarta rests in South Jakarta, surrounded by lush tropical grounds only 40-minutes from the city centre by taxi. There are plenty of apartments and houses available nearby for overseas teachers to rent. The School provides the funds for accommodation and assists with the process of finding accommodation.

Jakarta is a metropolitan city and the capital of Indonesia, as well as a prominent hub for flights to Bali, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, and the U.S., among other destinations. Despite challenges of the city’s traffic, Jakarta is a gateway to exploration within and beyond Indonesia's borders, a highly convenient place for overseas teachers to live, and a base to branch out into many exceptional tourist destinations.

AIS Jakarta features world-class facilities, designed to Australian standards. All classrooms and learning areas adhere to international standard specifications with first-class security systems, sustainable architecture, energy-efficient systems, and IT-based teaching technologies. In addition to the beautiful library and learning support areas, the campus includes specialist areas for music, art, media and film as well as drama. For sports and play, the students enjoy spacious playgrounds; two 25-meter competition standard swimming pools, a soccer and rugby field, cricket nets; and two 850-square meter, multi-purpose courts for basketball, netball, volleyball, indoor cricket, taekwondo, gymnastics, and badminton. Students are encouraged to get involved in service programmes for the benefit of the community, environment, and animal welfare.

Accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), AIS Jakarta is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. The Australian National Curriculum is taught to Year 10 and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is taught in years 11 and 12. The school also provides a rigorous student welfare and compassionate programme, which provides the scaffolding that students need. AIS Jakarta currently enrols more than 300 students, aged three to 18 years, representing 36 nationalities, providing a teach-abroad experience like none other!

In addition, AIS Jakarta hosts an annual camp to celebrate outdoor enjoyment and infinite adventures. Each excursion fosters character development, leadership, and life skills, as well as an appreciation for nature and the environment, whilst students and teachers from around the world become a close-knit family.

AIS Jakarta hires experienced, certified teachers of diverse profiles, including those with a non-teaching partner. Candidates must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. As per government regulations, those up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa.
