Overseas Teaching in Changshu City

China World Academy (CWA) is an International Baccalaureate (IB) boarding school for Chinese students in Grades 9–12.  Founded by the same team who launched UWC Changshu China, the school obtains support from UWC Changshu China and Tsinghua University High School in terms of curriculum, teaching, research, faculty, extracurricular activities, and university counseling.

Located in the southern part of Changshu City on the east bank of the beautiful Kuncheng Lake, CWA is only four kilometers away from its sister school UWC Changshu China. The 80-acre campus includes a theater, a library, a canteen, a standard football pitch, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, and a swimming pool. With more than 100 conventional classrooms, a 1,500 square meter STEM center, 18 science labs, and 400 student dormitories, the school can accommodate up to 1,600 students. The facilities also include 150 faculty apartments. Currently 200 students, most of whom are Chinese, study for the IB Diploma. The teaching staff of 25 comprises 12 from the U.K. and 13 from China.

The CWA campus was designed as an energy-saving and environmentally-friendly green space. Air corridors connect the main school buildings, and natural light and fresh air fill every room. For the physical and mental wellbeing of the community, the open plan design allows for the integration of nature within spaces for work and study. The school believes that this environment is conducive to creativity.

In addition to many opportunities for Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS), a key component of the IB Diploma Programme, students at CWA take part in Sunday Weekend Field Trips and Project Week programs. During these outings, student focus on their national culture, learn about contemporary social development, and explore progress made in various industries. CWA says these activities stimulate personal interests and create opportunities for experiential learning. During the Sunday Weekend Field Trips, students explore local resources to broaden their horizons, understand current events, and experience in reality what they have theorized during the exploration process of their project-based learning. Project Week gives students more opportunities for self-reflection, design, and action and also helps students build deeper relationships with different communities. It allows students to ponder the relationship between individuals, community, and society, and transfer their sense of service into practice.

CWA is interested in hiring certified teachers and interns. This includes those with a non-teaching spouse and newly certified candidates. Teachers must possess their academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Candidates up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa.

The benefits package includes allowances for moving, housing, and annual airfare. Full tuition is covered for one child. Worldwide health insurance is fully covered as well. CWA also contributes to a retirement plan. This package could amount to some good savings!
