Overseas Teaching Opportunities in Beijing

Beijing Kaiwen Academy (KWA) is a boarding school nestled among nature, situated on a sprawling campus with exceptional facilities. A lake surrounded by a one-kilometer walking trail forms its central feature. In addition to buildings for the primary and secondary schools, a cafeteria, auditorium, and dorms, the school boasts a golf driving range, tennis and basketball courts, a baseball field, soccer pitches, an indoor swimming pool with eight lanes, and two gymnasiums.

KWA is located in the Hadian District of Beijing, which is thirty minutes from downtown and is renowned for its educational offerings. The school is connected to city transit and is close to the ensemble of lakes, gardens, and palaces that comprise the Summer Palace. Beijing offers modern conveniences and amenities as well as old-world history, such as the Forbidden City.

Accredited by the Chinese Ministry of Education and a Candidate School with AdvancEd, KWA delivers the U.S. Common Core curriculum as well as Advanced Placement courses in the upper levels. Currently, 700 predominantly Chinese students are enrolled in Grades K–12. “We are looking for teachers who want to help build a school that leads to entry to top universities and a globally-minded vision among our students.”

While KWA prefers to hire certified and experienced single teachers and interns, they will also consider candidates certified in non-English speaking countries as well as couples, including those with a non-teaching partner and. Candidates must hold their academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Those under the age of 60 may obtain a work visa in China. KWA adds,

“We employ dedicated professional teachers who seek professional growth, a collegial work environment, and the chance to work in [an] academically focused environment.”

Benefits include housing, on or off campus, a moving allowance, and annual airfare. Tuition for up to two children is paid for by the school. Worldwide health insurance, including dental and emergency evacuation, is also fully covered. KWA not only provides teachers with in-house professional development, but also accepts applications for those wishing to train elsewhere in China or in North America. Additional benefits include free breakfast and lunch, bonuses for contract completion and performance, and free access to the gym, golf range, and swimming pool.
