Overseas Teaching Positions in Hong Kong

Search Associates has added the newly-minted Malvern College Hong Kong (MCHK) to its registry of international schools. MCHK inherits its ethos from its parent school, Malvern College, U.K. and strives to be a leading international school in Hong Kong. The original Malvern College, established in 1865, is alma mater to many business and social leaders, Nobel laureates, and world class artists, musicians, and athletes.

In August 2017, MCHK initially opened its doors to provide a preschool education.   MCHK will be seeking International Baccalaureate (IB) authorization to deliver a full IB curriculum (PYP, MYP, and DP). Also part of the program is a mandatory chess program for the development of higher-level critical thinking and mandatory debating and public speaking for effective communication.

MCHK champions blended learning with purpose-built facilities housing modern, well-equipped learning spaces, and the use of effective learning technologies. The welcoming environment of the open-plan library at the heart of the school encourages collaboration. The school boasts a 450-seat auditorium with concert hall quality acoustics for musical and orchestral performances. Various music rooms, band rooms, and individual practice rooms have been designed for excellent sound as well. Students can experience planting and gardening in the landscaped outdoor space, which also includes an AstroTurf Skypitch designed for football and rugby. The multi-purpose sports hall, with special flooring for cricket lanes, also accommodates full-sized basketball, badminton, and volleyball courts and can also be used as an assembly hall for school events. Additionally, an indoor, 6-lane, 25-meter, heated swimming pool allows swimmers to train year round.

The school prides itself on a balanced daily routine that encompasses the academic, the physical, the social, and the creative. The challenging, inquiry-based IB Programme curriculum encourages students to explore ideas and concepts while developing a body of knowledge and global perspective at their own pace. In addition to the aforementioned sports, MCHK offers netball, rounders, and gymnastics. Other planned activities include sailing, kayaking, cycling, some of which are offered as co-curricular activities after school. A leadership program allows students to become nominated by their peers to be prefects as well as leaders in their group houses or representatives in the Student Council. MCHK offers opportunities for students interested in drama, technology, coding, and more!

MCHK is interested in hiring singles and married couples, including those with a non-teaching spouse, for whom there are local opportunities. The school will also consider exceptional, newly-certified teachers. Candidates must possess full teaching qualifications from a recognized institution and hold an academic degree in the subject area or program that they will be teaching.

The salary and benefits package includes a competitive salary as well as a settling-in allowance, a monthly stipend for housing, and a gratuity at the end of each completed contract. Annual airfare for home leave is provided, and the tuition benefit is 80% for up to two children (admissions criteria apply). Worldwide health insurance is covered, including long-term disability and emergency evacuation. MCHK contributes 5% to a retirement plan but stipulates, “If teachers can prove their enrollment in a retirement plan at their home country, they will not join [MCHK’s] retirement plan.” The school is committed to providing professional development.
