Teach Abroad at the British International School, Cairo

The British International School, Cairo (BISC) offers an outstanding British-style education, focused on independent learning and the promotion of global citizenship. Established in in 1976, the co-ed day school is housed in a state-of-the-art campus in the 6th October City, 30 kilometers west of Cairo's centre.

At BISC, English-speaking students from diverse international backgrounds explore and appreciate the host culture while gaining or improving competence in the Arabic language. Built on a total land area of 5.4 hectares (13-plus acres), the campus consists of a foundation stages and primary school; a senior school; an art building, including a theater with seating for 600; a library building; and a gym with facilities.

BISC is accredited by Council of British International Schools (COBIS), British Schools in the Middle East (BSME), and the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS). In the Junior School, the Early Years Education is firmly rooted in the progressive practice of the UK Foundation Stage Curriculum (FS1-2), and Junior Education (Y1-6) is founded on the National Curriculum of England & Wales. In the Senior School, the Senior Education (Y7-11) delivers a broad balance of academic subjects and extra-curricular activities, leading to GCSE examinations in Year 11. In the Sixth Form, students have extensive subject options to study towards the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Taking advantage of its excellent facilities, BISC provides many learning opportunities outside of the classroom. After school, young students from Year 2 and up are encouraged to try at least one activity per week. Choices may include Chess Club, Movie Making, yoga, Band Club, Dance Musical, Poet’s Corner, Fun Food Cookery Club, Dress-up Stories, Playtime Games, Jewelry Making & Crafts. Senior School students are encouraged to try a mix of academic, sporting, and cultural activities. Clubs available to them are art, history, science, East Asian film, After-school Community, and Band. Support groups for chemistry, math, and French also meet. Other options include Injaz (Young Enterprise), The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Recycled Product Making, MUN, Dangerous Ideas—Public Speaking, Examination Art Technique, Grade 5 Music Theory, Senior School Fitness, and GCSE Production. Senior students also  play an active role in their Houses—Fire, Earth, Air, and Water—through a range of activities and competitions, such as the House Music, the House Sports Day, and the House Quiz.

BISC competes across a range of sports locally, regionally and internationally. They play against Cairo international schools through the CISSA tournaments and compete with other British schools through CIBSA. BISC takes part in the regional BSME Games and throughCOBIS Games for both Junior and Senior levels. The school participates in international tournaments, such as the Mediterranean Cup for football, BSAK rugby tournament in Abu Dhabi, and a swim meet in Dubai.

BISC can only hire experienced, certified teachers wishing to teach abroad, including couples with a non-teaching partner. Candidates need to hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. As per country regulations, those up to the age of 65 may obtain a work visa.
