Teach Abroad in Thailand

As part of the Ruamrudee International School network of three campuses in Bangkok, Ruamrudee International School Ratchapruek Campus (RISR) lives up to its founding mission of academic excellence. Its high-quality curriculum is informed by international best practices and approaches, ranging from Reggio Emilia and balanced literacy to technology and media literacy. Located in Nonthaburi, just outside of Bangkok, Thailand, the campus opened in August 2019. RISR will be adding Grades 7 and 8 in the 2021-2022 school year and Grades 9-12 in the 2022-2023 school year. Plans for the secondary school buildings are underway.

RISR’s campus is in a residential area of Nonthaburi, just northwest of the city of Bangkok across the Chao Phraya River. The purpose-built facility includes spacious classrooms with agile learning spaces, an indoor swimming pool, Pre-K splash pool, library and media center, technology and design center, two canteen spaces, indoor gymnasium, outdoor gymnasium, outdoor play spaces, three air-filtered and climate-controlled indoor play spaces, and a rooftop tennis court. The campus models RISR’s values and strategic initiatives around sustainability and sustenance, with plans for extensive vertical gardens, a seed-to-table program, and zero-waste initiatives.

Following the Reggio Emilia program in early years, RISR students engage in a rigorous, standards-based American curriculum. Having recently completed a successful initial visit conducted virtually by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and awaiting an in-person, accreditation team to complete the process, this young school received commendations for its “experienced leadership team with extensive pedagogical knowledge and a clear direction to support the students served.” RISR is a member of the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WIDA).

Creativity, critical thinking, and inquiry are infused into RISR’s academic program at all grade levels. The school closely follows the mission of its sister school RIS Minburi to ensure success for all students in the globalized world, based on the principles of Christian love and caring that welcomes all faiths. The school community celebrates diversity, fosters collaboration, and bridges understanding among cultures. To nurture the holistic development of students, three pillars representing RISR’s values are embedded in all aspects of school life: Head (Knowledge), Hands (Skills), and Heart (Compassion).

Enrollment is currently 160 students, the majority of whom are Thai, with 8% from North America. At RISR, highly motivated and enthusiastic students and their supportive parents.

RISR students benefit from rich co-curricular activities and the Extended Day Program. Drama, dance, music, and art are taught in the formal academic curriculum: students will have additional opportunities to perform in different productions during the school year, such as through after-school activities that extend the performing arts curriculum. Other Extended Day Program activities have included the following: Mandarin, Flameless Cooking Jr., Code Club, Green Thumbs Garden Club, RISing Robots, ping pong, swimming, soccer, kick ball, and more!

RISR is interested in hiring certified teachers, including those with a non-teaching partner as well as exceptional, newly-certified candidates. Teachers must hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. There is no age limit to obtain a work visa. The school adds,

Recruitment of the highest quality staff is a priority. RISR staff are expected to have a passion for education, a willingness to work hard, and in the interest of students be able to stretch them in areas outside the curriculum.

The benefits package includes a settling-in allowance, monthly housing stipend, and annual airfare home. At the start and end of each contract, incoming and outgoing flights for teachers and all of their dependents will also be provided. The school will match contributions of up to 10% towards an optional retirement plan. RISR covers approximately 98% of the tuition for dependents. Worldwide health insurance is fully covered and includes dental, life, and long-term disability. This package, combined with a low cost of living, amounts to some savings or the chance for a family of four to live on one salary. RISR’s commitment to professional growth is demonstrated in the following ways:

  • Ongoing professional development centered on the aspirations of both the individual and the school
  • The opportunity to work alongside motivated and supportive colleagues
  • Opportunities to develop leadership, management skills, and coaching through RISR Sports Academy
  • A culture of collaboration, innovation, and ambition that creates an exceptional learning environment for the entire RISR community
