Teach Abroad in the Vibrant City of Guangzhou, Minutes from Hong Kong!

Explore overseas teaching opportunities at Benenden Bilingual School Guangzhou (BBSG), the first of five world-class bilingual schools planned in partnership between CTF Education Group (CTFEG) and Benenden School. Expected to open in August 2023, this co-educational day and boarding school has the capacity to serve 1,600 students from kindergarten to Grade 12.

Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong Province and one of the most prosperous cities in China. Commonly referred to as the "Flower City," Guangzhou enjoys a mild sub-tropical climate with abundant annual rainfall, which makes it a beautiful city with evergreen scenery and flowers blooming all the year round.

Benenden School Guangzhou will stand as the flagship Benenden school, the first of five outside the UK to adopt and adapt Benenden’s highly regarded model ‘A Complete Education’ (ACE). The ACE curriculum has been developed by and for Benenden School UK so that their students can realize their academic potential, grow as individuals, and be prepared for life beyond school. ACE combines a focus on academic achievement, personal development, and engendering a firm understanding of the world in which we live.

Pending accreditation by the Council of British International Schools, BBSG currently enrolls 336 students in Years 1-9 (UK), of whom 286 are Chinese. The bilingual program is based on the Chinese National Curriculum and the international GCSE and A-level programmes. The teaching staff of 47 includes 30 educators from China.

BBSG aims to instill positive Chinese values and character traits in its students. Chinese Culture, an important part of the school’s co-curricular activities (CCA) program, provides a wide range of cultural experiences, such as local customs, social values, linguistic activities, origami, Chinese dance, creative writing, traditional costume, culture, and debate. All Chinese Culture programs are centered around an annual calendar of events: Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, and the Mid-Autumn Festival.

BBSG’s co-curricular program (CCA) includes a Performing Arts division that includes the study of music, drama, dance, and theatre, led by specialist teachers and held in state-of-the-art facilities so that students can benefit from a “near-professional experience in all their creative endeavours.” There are also opportunities to get involved in the production and technical aspects of running performances and concerts. Art & Design CCAs invite students to work with a wide range of media and techniques which will include painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, sculpture, digital media, and textiles. Music study and exploration, available to all ages—from kindergarten to sixth form—and led by specialist teachers, allows students to learn music and production, with the help of industry-standard technologies. They also engage with traditional and contemporary music styles as they cultivate their talents within collaborations, such as school musical theater productions, the choir, orchestras, jazz band, and much more. Drama is offered after school for all ages, within a non-judgmental environment. Expert teaching and the use of modern and unparalleled facilities, such as a theater, Blackbox room, drama rehearsal rooms, and a broadcasting/theatre technician’s room make for exceptional learning and fun. Annual plays and musical theatre productions throughout the year ensure that students have ample opportunities to showcase their talents, actively support, and take part in a variety of events. The CCA Dance division offers dance in many forms to students of every age, from ballet to hip hop, as well as opportunities to perform throughout the school year as well.

In addition, BBSB offers a robust STEAM program, in conjunction with renowned organizations and university research groups, which allows students to participate in scientific inquiry and engineering practices alongside scientists, engineers, and designers who are working on explanations of this complex world and solutions to real world problems.

BBSG’s topnotch sporting facilities match their desire to offer the very best sporting programs for all the students of all sporting abilities. Sports CCAs employ excellent teachers and trainers for a wide variety of sporting teams that compete in one-off competitions, tournaments, and a variety of national and international competitions.

BBSG hires experienced, certified teachers of diverse profiles wishing to teach overseas, including couples with a non-teaching partner. Teachers need not hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. As per government regulations, those up to the age of 60 may obtain a work visa.

The benefits package includes a moving and monthly housing allowance and annual airfare. Worldwide health insurance—except for the U.S. and Canada—is covered, with the employee paying a percentage. BBSG provides professional development opportunities for its staff.
