Teach Abroad near the Great Wall of China

Experience overseas teaching at BIBS Shunyi, near the Great Wall of China, one of the 7 Wonders of the World. The school is located in Shunyi, in Beijing, one of the world’s oldest cities with a rich history reflected in both modern and traditional architecture. Founded in 2009, BIBS Shunyi is one of two Beanstalk International Bilingual Schools (BIBS) authorized as International Baccalaureate (IB) World School campuses in Beijing, China. The K-12 school is located in the Shunyi district, convenient for foreign community accommodation and services northeast of the city’s urban core.

The BIBS Shunyi campus features a tennis court, a library, an indoor stadium, an outdoor playground, a roofed basketball court, a video workshop, a science lab, a soundproof music room, a dancing and theatre studio, a café corner, and a large outdoor area for the 600-plus teachers and students.

Accredited by both the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Ministry of Education, BIBS Shunyi delivers the Chinese National Curriculum and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education in addition to the IB Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP), and Diploma Programmes (DP). Its Upper East Side Campus—also accredited by WASC—offers the IB-authorized PYP as well. Currently enrolled are 501 students, most of whom are Chinese. Overseas teaching staff will work among 117 educators from China. The teacher-student ratio is 1:5.

Extracurricular activities are plentiful; some of the many offered include the following: STEAM, Logical Thinking, Robots, Programming for science and technology enrichment; literature appreciation, creative writing, speech, and debate for lovers of language and letters; swimming, American football, golf, tennis for sports enthusiasts; and for artists, piano, chorus, calligraphy, painting, and theater.

BIBS Shunyi hires singles and teaching couples of diverse profiles wishing to teach abroad, including candidates with a non-teaching partner, newly-certified teachers, and experienced teachers without certification. They will also consider interns. Teachers need not hold an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. As per government regulations, those up to the age of 59 may obtain a work visa.

The overseas teaching benefits package includes a settling in and monthly housing allowance as well as annual airfare. Tuition is free for up to two children, and school lunches are provided for staff. As BIBS highly values professional learning, BIBS Shunyi ensures that all staff can access IB-sanctioned professional development over the course of a two- year period. Additionally, six Professional Learning Days are offered during the school year.  Worldwide health insurance—except for the U.S.—is fully covered and includes emergency evacuation. There are local employment opportunities for non-teaching partners.
