Teach Overseas in Russia

Letovo School is a new, non-profit private school for talented children eager to learn and challenge themselves academically and personally. Launched in September 2018, Letovo School is located southwest of Moscow in Novaya Moskva, a newly developed district amidst the open countryside. Vadim Moshkovich, the entrepreneur and benefactor who established the school, explains his vision for the school:

"It was my dream to offer talented children from all over the country access to high-quality education, regardless of the financial capacity of their parents. This makes it possible for them to continue studying at the 10 best universities in the country or at one of the 50 best universities in the world."

The Letovo School won the Best Architectural Project in Russia for 2016. The state-of-the-art, well-resourced campus encompasses 19,000 square meters with 10 houses for students, three houses for teachers, 40 classrooms, a 1,000-seat theater, five library rooms, nine scientific laboratories, four sports halls, and a stadium.

Despite its impressive size, the campus is designed to have everything at arm's length, accessible to its students, and proportionate to their needs. Absent are endless corridors and empty halls! The main building houses a variety of educational zones and facilities, where everyone can find convenient places for study, work, and leisure. Thanks to the 24-hour security post, closed-circuit TV cameras, and other technology, the school is a quiet and safe place for every child.

Letovo School is fully accredited by both the Moscow State Department of Education and Boarding Schools’ Association Overseas. The highly selective school has the capacity to serve 1,000 bright students from all over Russia for the last five grades in the Russian education system, Grades 7–11. The school also aims to offer an outstanding education accessible to everyone:

“An endowment fund to provide financial aid for students was started with the help of the founding donors, and a continuous fundraising effort is made to create a sustainable model that attracts talent irrespective of a family’s financial situation.”

Boarding for 500 students is available. Currently enrolled are 200 Russian students. The teaching staff of 64 comprises 55 Russians and nine from the U.K., along with teachers from different countries.

At the core of the Letovo School educational model is student-centered learning. While the school offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for the upper levels, each student chooses an individual educational trajectory to study a discipline at a comfortable pace, at an appropriate level—from standard to advanced—independently or in class. To keep a student’s study plan consistent, Letovo Academy teachers guide the student’s choices, drawing the individual’s attention to the bigger picture of his or her learning opportunities. Moreover, a fun and rich extracurricular life is offered to students. The school says, “Many clubs, studios and societies help our students to receive all-round development and reach personal fulfillment.”

Letovo School is interested in hiring certified singles and teaching couples. They would consider couples with a non-teaching partner as well as exceptional, newly-certified teachers and those certified in a non-English speaking country. Candidates need not possess an academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. There is no age limit to obtain a work visa in Russia.

Committed to using the very best pedagogical practices and supporting its teachers in the delivery of a world class curriculum, the school enlists advisers from Raffles Institution in Singapore and Winchester College and Wellington School in the UK. Prior to the school’s opening, professional development from Stanford University as well as training with guest consultants from abroad will be provided. Tours to some top schools—Phillips Exeter Academy, Raffles Institution, and Harvard-Westlake—are also arranged for Letovo School academic staff. The boarding staff will receive training in first aid, safeguarding, and safety.

The Letovo Academy package comprises a competitive salary and allowances for moving, settling in, housing, and annual airfare home. Also included are subsidized lunches and the option to choose teacher housing. Local health insurance, which includes life, dental, and long-term disability, is fully covered. The potential for savings is enormous, and a family of four could absolutely live on one salary.
