Barbara Powers joined Search Associates as a Consultant in November 2019. In this role she assists the Director and Senior Consultants in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, leadership searches, strategic planning, mentoring of new administrators, and special projects.
Her 40-year career in public education spanned all levels and ages of children and included 10 years of teaching and 30 years of administrative work, including serving as a Principal, Curriculum Director, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent. Her last position was as the Superintendent of a very high performing school district in Falmouth, Maine, receiving top national rankings from Forbes Magazine as well as Blue Ribbon School status while an elementary school principal. She traveled to China as a guest of HANBAN and established a teacher partnership, sponsoring a Chinese language teacher as a resident instructor in her schools. Barbara was also elected to the School Board in her own community and led policy reviews and budget initiatives as Chair.
Barbara earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Behavior Sciences from Central Michigan University, graduating summa cum laude, and was also certified in secondary education. She then received her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Southern Maine in Secondary School Counseling. Barbara next completed significant additional graduate work and holds multiple educational certificates: Superintendent, Director of Curriculum, Principal, Secondary Teaching of Social Studies, and Elementary School Teaching. She looks forward to expanding her consulting expertise within Search Associates’ international school network with a focus on leadership searches, mentoring, and strategic planning.
