International Teaching Positions in Costa Rica

Marian Baker School (MBS), located in San Jose, Costa Rica, is a private English-speaking international school with a big heart and esteemed history! Founded in 1984, MBS has been educating students from Pre-K to Grade 12 with pride, expertise, and care. The school offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program, along with AERO standards-based curricula. Students can also earn their Costa Rican Bachillerato. Along with its high quality academic program, MBS makes sure that field trips, sports, art, drama, music, and clubs are key components of student life!

The campus is located in the mountain and rainforest area of San Ramón de Tres Rios, on the east side of San Jose. Fresh, clean air and wonderful views are the call of the day! The school’s small size—approximately 200 students—allows its educators to provide the high quality individual attention that students deserve.

Fully accredited by AdvancEd and the Costa Rica Ministry of Public Education, MBS currently staffs 44 teachers of five nationalities: Costa Rican, Canadian, Cuban, Venezuelan, and American. Of the students enrolled, 70% are from Costa Rica and 30% are from North America.

In MBS’s student-centered classrooms, teachers implement strategies for flexible and differentiated learning structures to make learning personalized and meaningful. Critical thinking skills and mental habits are emphasized so that students learn to solve problems constructively and innovatively, while making responsible and ethical decisions. Graduates of MBS are accepted at colleges and universities in North America, Central America, and Europe. Last year, graduates earned $1.7 million USD in scholarships!

MBS is interested in hiring certified singles and couples, including those with a non-teaching spouse, outstanding newly-certified candidates, and those certified in a non-English speaking country. Teachers must possess their academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Work visas may be obtained up to the age of 70.

The MBS benefits package includes a settling-in allowance, a monthly housing stipend, and annual roundtrip airfare for the employee. The tuition benefit is 100% for the first child and 50% for the second. Medical insurance by TIEcare International Plus is fully covered. This package amounts to some savings. As part of their professional development, teachers may attend a variety of workshops and seminars, both locally and internationally. They also participate in in-service training on a selection of topics to keep up-to-date with current developments in education.
