Search Hong Kong Establishes a New Record for School Registrations

This January 18^th-20^th, Senior Associate Barry Drake brought recruiters from 57 schools (the largest number so far) and 133 candidates together for the annual Search Hong Kong Fair. Held over a weekend, the fair is designed for the convenience of participants who have minimal time to be away from their schools. To maintain a more intimate atmosphere, Barry hosts each Search Hong Kong at an international school. He also caps the number of schools who come from the broader Asia region at 60, and candidates who attend are focused squarely on jobs in Asia. With 402 job openings posted, it was great that Senior Associate Bill Turner was there to help! One grateful candidate told Barry,

“I have had a number of offers, and I will take your advice and consider the options over the weekend. The HK fair has been an amazing experience. Thank you for hosting such a great event."

Originally established to fill teaching vacancies in the China–Hong Kong–Taiwan region, Search Hong Kong Fair is now seeing increasing numbers of recruiters from schools in the broader Asian region—though mainland China is a popular destination. The vast majority of candidates attending Search Hong Kong have previous International Baccalaureate or other international curriculum experience. Over 50% of them have 10 or more years in international schools. Search Hong Kong is this THE fair for recruiters to locate Mandarin teachers; twenty percent of the registered teachers each year are of Chinese ethnicity.

This year’s venue, the Chinese International School, provided excellent facilities and catering. Barry greatly appreciated the fast and reliable internet and top notch technical assistance as well. A teaching couple said,

“We both enjoyed the fair. Found it very valuable and thought it was very well organized."
