Senior Associate Visits Schools in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur

On a recent trip to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Senior Associate Ray Sparks visited a number of our member schools. Ray embodies the Search Associates presence by visiting a number of schools each year to stay up-to-date and to support administrators and teachers.

Ray’s first stop was at Chatsworth International School, located in the heart of Singapore, in what used to be a colonial mansion of a very wealthy Singaporean. In 2018, the school will be expanding to encompass a new campus while retaining the older campus for K-6 students. The school follows all levels of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which is implemented by an internationally diverse teaching staff.

Ray next visited the new GEMS World Academy Singapore, 20 minutes from the center of Singapore in a newly-developed expatriate community. Now in its third year of operation, this very large facility and well-resourced school has grown significantly, with an expected 40% increase in enrollment, beginning August 2016.

A third stopover brought Ray to the small but invaluable Winstede International School, nestled in the downtown core of Singapore and surrounded by apartments and other schools. Winstede International School is particularly designed for special-needs students who require assistance that other schools in Singapore cannot provide. Each class offers maximum contact, with a ratio of two teachers for every 11 to 15 students. Additionally, the school offers the services of a speech therapist, an occupational therapist, a psychologist, and other specialist educators.

The next visit for Ray was at the Canadian International School (CIS) in Singapore, which comprises two campuses with over 2,200 expat students from many countries. The original campus now houses K-6 while the new Lakeside Campus offers programs for K-12. CIS offers a strong IB curriculum and has excellent facilities and resources.

The Anglo-Chinese International School was Ray’s final site in Singapore. This Christian school of over one thousand students is situated in a residential area and close to a shopping area near Orchard Road. The school follows a southern hemisphere school calendar.

Ray journeyed northwest to the International School of Kuala Lumpur. He was thrilled to see that the new campus has just broken ground.

At ISKL, Ray also took the opportunity to congratulate Mr. Mike Callan who will be leaving his position as Middle School Principal to become Head of School at the American Overseas School of Rome, Italy.
