Peter Smyth

Peter Smyth brings more than 25 years of experience in education to his role as a Senior Associate with Search Associates, which he joined in 2019. Having spent much of his career working internationally, he has taught and led within British, IB, and American curriculum schools, gaining firsthand experience of the opportunities and challenges that come with living and working overseas. Colleagues have often valued his ability to build strong relationships and support educators at every stage of their careers.

Peter earned a BSc in Outdoor and Science Education (QTS) from Liverpool John Moores University and began his career teaching Science and Physical Education at a Specialist Sports College in northwest England. A move to the United States opened the door to a range of leadership opportunities and ultimately shaped the next phase of his career. Along the way, he completed an M.Ed., earned Principal Certification in Washington State, and became a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) through the NIAAA. His leadership experience has included roles such as Head of Science, Head of Physical Education, Assistant Principal, District Athletic Director, and Whole School Administrator.

International education later took Peter and his family to schools in Africa and Central America, further broadening his understanding of different school communities and educational contexts. Through these experiences, and through visits to schools across multiple regions, he developed a deep appreciation for the factors that help educators and schools thrive together. Today, he draws on that perspective when guiding educators through the international recruitment process and helping them make informed decisions about their careers.

Peter now lives in the US with his wife, Janelle, who is also an international educator. Having built their own careers across several countries, they remain passionate advocates for the international school experience and the opportunities it can create both professionally and personally. Outside of work, Peter enjoys outdoor pursuits with his family and stays connected to the global network of educators and friends he has met throughout his career. He understands the excitement, uncertainty, and life-changing potential of an international move because he has experienced it himself.
