Candidate Information and Conditions

Search Associates – International Job Fair

8-11 January 2018

BANGKOK, Thailand

Candidate Information

Because this is an early fair and attended by highly experienced international educators, this fair is quite competitive. Recruiters know that they have other fairs to attend at later dates, so they are very selective in this first round. Please talk with your sponsoring associate to determine if this fair is a good match for you or if another fair would be a better "fit". Experienced, strong educator couples and experienced, strong single educators without dependents have an advantage at this fair.

NOTES

·       Essential attendance from 8 January to late afternoon on 11 January. Please note: attendance is by invitation only.

·       Registration for Candidates begins on 8 January at 8:00 a.m – 11:00 a.m. A candidate orientation meeting begins at 11:00 a.m.(Highly recommended, especially for those new to the Bangkok Fair).

·       The interview sign-up session starts on 9 January at 10:30 a.m for all candidates. DO NOT BE LATE. The interviews arranged will determine your schedule for Jan. 9 - 11.

·       Some schools are in contact with candidates before the fair and might pre-arrange some of their interviews on January 8-9 and will schedule more interviews during the interview sign-up session. It is common practice for some schools to have early interviews at fairs.

ACCOMMODATION

Candidates are NOT required to stay at the hotel, but there is a distinct advantage in terms of availability for interviews and "exposure" to the recruiters, all of whom stay at The Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel. Bangkok has many inexpensive hotels (review via the Internet) which are a short taxi-ride or walk to the Sheraton.

HOTEL CHARGES

To be settled directly with the hotel on departure.

The Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers Booking (only after you have registered for the fair) must be made using the Sheraton's online reservation system (the link will be provided in the candidate invitation).

Please note that the hotel could be fully booked by December, so we strongly recommend that reservations be made EARLY (Sept / Oct) and no later than 6 December to receive the Preferred rate. Bookings made after 6 December is at the Hotel's discretion and cannot guarantee the Preferred rate.

Your booking must be guaranteed by credit card. Book earlier than the final deadline noted above. Cancellations can be made without penalty until 6 October; beyond this date, there is a cancellation fee equivalent to one night's stay. Please note: Any no show or cancellation that occurs within 14 days prior to the arrival date is subject to the entire stay room charge and will be billed and charged to the individual guest's account or credit card guarantee.

TRAVEL

Make your own arrangements early; flights in and out of Thailand can be very busy.

Many participants traveling from overseas will require no visa but, if in doubt, please check with your travel agent and/or nearest Royal Thai embassy / consulate in good time.

CONDITIONS PERTAINING TO TEACHER/CANDIDATES

1.    Requesting a place from your associate well before 15 October is preferred as spaces fill quickly and each associate has a limited number of invitations available for this fair.

2.    If your place has been confirmed, schools may be informed that you are coming, so please do not withdraw.

3.    Before an invitation to the Bangkok - January Fair is issued, candidates need to have registered and become an "active" candidate with Search Associates, well in advance of the Fair.

4.    Candidates registered with a member of the Search Associates team need to ask approval of their associate to send the candidate an invitation to the Bangkok – January Fair.

5.    Collect your candidate packet on 8 January so that you will have plenty of time to study the contents. Candidates who are well prepared stand a far better chance of placement.

6.    No guarantee can be given that any given Head will interview you, let alone that any job offer(s) might come your way, but part of our function is to help all candidates and all Heads to gain as much as possible from the Fair.

7.    Dress for the presentations and Interview sign-up session in business / interview attire.

8.    Your word is your bond, both in promising accuracy and honesty in all papers you submit and in all statements you make, and in your response to any job offer(s) made to you. The same applies to interviewers, who have also been asked not to put any candidates under pressure for an immediate answer if a job is offered at (or soon after) the Bangkok Fair. In particular, any candidate attending two fairs in rapid succession should honor his/her commitment to both fairs by meeting, at least, any/all schools with which the candidate has had pre-fair communications.

9.    Recruiters should give candidates adequate time to consider employment offers. This time should be sufficient for candidates both to reflect on the offer itself, and to complete interviews with other schools, during the job fair. If a candidate so wishes, he or she may accept at any point following an offer being made.
Search Associates expects that recruiters will observe the following guidelines, as a matter of professional ethics. When making an offer of employment to a candidate at a Search Associates Job Fair, the recruiter should explain the following:

a.    The candidate may be asked by the recruiter to respond to an offer by the published end date and time of the job fair, or 24 hours of the offer being made.

b.    Where the candidate intends to attend another job fair within 24 hours of an offer being made, the recruiter may require a decision by midnight of the day before the start of that second job fair.

10. This timing also makes it possible for recruiters to offer the same position, if necessary, at the same or next fair (or in a timely manner) to another candidate if you decline. Both candidates and recruiters should understand that agreement to these timing arrangements is a condition of participating in the fair. Candidates are encouraged to research schools in advance, whenever possible, so that decisions can be made promptly. Recruiters are encouraged to have ample information available in print, including complete sample contracts, to give to candidates to expedite this decision-making.

11. Accepting an invitation to the Bangkok - January Fair confirms that - if not paid by you already - you promise to pay the Search Associates office you have registered with, all fees due to cover catering and other services provided by the hotel at this fair. This "Fair costs" fee is waived for candidates who have paid a Search registration fee and for whom this is their first Search Fair. For second or later Search Fairs within a given registration period, an additional charge of US $75 is requested towards these "Fair costs." All fees due must be paid to your specific sponsoring associate before the Fair.

12. Should you secure a job or decide that you cannot attend the Bangkok-January Fair, please notify us immediately so that we may invite a candidate on our waiting list. Cancel your registration from your candidate dashboard. The final date for cancelling the fair is 26 December. After this date, fair materials will be prepared and this will count as a fair attendance.

13. IMPORTANT: According to the Search Agreement, you must notify the fair organizers and your sponsoring associate WITHIN SEVEN DAYS or SOONER of accepting any verbal or written offer of employment, and will ALSO provide the name and location of the school which hired you THROUGH SEARCH ASSOCIATES or OTHERWISE. In this way, Search Associates will be immediately aware of the moment when you are no longer an actively searching candidate. In addition, please designate that you are not available on the Search website.

We look forward to welcoming you at the Search Bangkok January Fair.
