Inspire Young Learners in a Bilingual, International Setting at the International Montessori School, Hong Kong
School Spotlights
For educators seeking an international school community grounded in purpose, innovation, and bilingual excellence, The International Montessori School (IMS) in Hong Kong offers a compelling opportunity. As the only accredited Montessori school in Hong Kong, IMS has built a strong reputation for nurturing student self-actualization from First Steps through Middle School. Through its seamless English-Mandarin “through-train” model, two teachers work together in each homeroom, delivering both languages in parallel and creating an immersive bilingual learning environment.
At IMS, Montessori philosophy is paired with forward-thinking opportunities that prepare students for a rapidly changing world. Technology is thoughtfully integrated as a tool for independence and inquiry, while an extensive extracurricular program invites students to explore athletics, the arts, and student-led clubs. The expanding Middle School program places particular emphasis on agency, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Students have even founded and operated their own functioning business, reflecting the school’s commitment to developing capable, globally minded young people.
Across four campuses on Hong Kong Island, including its scenic primary campus in Stanley, IMS has created learning spaces intentionally designed to reflect an authentic Montessori “prepared environment” at scale. Specialized dual-language classrooms, thoughtfully designed collaborative spaces, and environments that support movement and exploration create an exceptional setting for children from 12 months through Middle School.
With more than 75 AMI-trained staff members serving 1,000 students, IMS offers educators the opportunity to join one of the world’s leading bilingual Montessori communities. Teachers benefit from fully equipped classrooms, a deeply engaged parent community, and the professional satisfaction of contributing to a school that continues to grow with purpose and vision. A truly international environment, IMS is enriched by students from 40 nations and nearly an even split between Chinese educators and international teachers representing 18 countries.
Living in Hong Kong offers international educators a unique blend of professional opportunity and lifestyle. As one of the world’s most dynamic crossroads of East and West, the city combines global energy with remarkable access to nature—from hiking trails and beaches near Stanley to the cultural vibrancy of the city center. At IMS, this setting is complemented by a professional culture that values collaboration, community, and long-term growth.
IMS welcomes certified single educators and teaching couples, including newly certified candidates, and would also consider couples with a non-teaching partner. The school notes, “Individuals with 0-3, 3-6, 6-12, 12-18 AMI training and college degrees are preferred.” In Hong Kong, there is no age limit for certified teachers applying for a work visa. Head of School Dr. Timothy Veale adds:
The average tenure of our faculty is over eight years, and our team displays an exceptional level of commitment to AMI principles and bilingual excellence…We look for educators who are passionate about the Montessori learning environment and excited to participate in a community that balances extensive academic rigor with deep respect for the individual child. We are currently scaling toward a “through-train” continuum, which makes this a truly exciting time to join our teams.

The overseas teaching benefits package includes a highly competitive salary and allowances for moving and airfare. The school covers full tuition for dependents, and all capital levies are waived. Additionally, employees in Hong Kong pay 5% of their salary to a mandatory retirement fund, which the school matches along with an additional 5% payment to a maximum of HKD $1,500. IMS also fully covers local health insurance, which includes dental and long-term disability. There are local employment opportunities for non-teaching partners.
