February 14 - 16, 2019

DUBAI
DEIRA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, FESTIVAL CITY, DUBAI

Fair Organizer: Bill Turner

The Dubai fair is organized by Bill Turner and Alison Turner, who have recent leadership experience in 5 schools across the region, covering British, IB and American curricula. This fair is particularly appropriate for candidates looking for a position in the Middle East or Asia. The majority of the schools recruiting at the fair come from those regions, though a good number of schools from Europe and Africa usually come as well. This very popular fair now attracts over 50 schools and over 200 candidates each year.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FAIR IS NOT A PUBLIC EVENT. IT IS STRICTLY BY INVITATION ONLY. YOU CAN ONLY ATTEND IF YOU HAVE BEEN INVITED, AND HAD YOUR PLACE CONFIRMED, BY SEARCH ASSOCIATES.

International schools of all kinds - including British, American and IB schools - attend our Dubai job fair, so it is suitable for a wide range of teachers, in all subject fields and at all levels. The fair is especially convenient for candidates already working in Europe, the Middle East, Africa or Asia who can reach Dubai within reasonable flying time.

The fair is organised by Bill and Alison Turner and is particularly appropriate for their candidates, but candidates registered with any other associate are equally welcome to request an invitation to register for a place.

Candidates wishing to attend the Dubai fair should contact Bill Turner (or, if not registered with him, their sponsoring associate) as early as possible to request an invitation. It is best to do this between September and December — and at the latest by the end of January.

The Dubai fair is always held over a Friday / Saturday weekend. If at all possible, candidates need to be free to attend on both of these two very full days of meetings and interviews, and should make their travel and accommodation arrangements with that in mind. However, special arrangements will be made to ensure that any candidates who, because of professional commitments, have to arrive late or leave early are not in any way disadvantaged.

Candidates who may not be able to attend both days of the fair should inform the fair organiser, Bill Turner, as early as possible about their arrangements.

DUBAI JOB FAIR  14 to 16 FEBRUARY 2019

Hosted at: Deira International School, Dubai Festival City, PO Box 79043, UAE.

Tel +971 4 232 5552

https://www.disdubai.ae/page.cfm?p=748

NB Please do not phone the school for Fair-related questions. Email us (bturner@searchassociates.com) or, if really urgent, call us (+971 56 793 1108; if I am not in the UAE you will need to call +39 320 974383.)

Arrival and departure

Friday 15 February and Saturday 16 February 2019 are the essential days to be present at the Fair.

If you live in the UAE you can simply drive to the school where there is plenty of parking.

If you are staying at The Holiday Inn Festival City there is a free shuttle bus service to the school leaving the hotel at 6.45am on Friday, and back again later in the day. On Saturday the shuttle bus will leave the Holiday Inn Festival City at 7.30am.

If you come by taxi please make sure you tell the driver: Deira International School in FESTIVAL CITY. (This is because Deira is the name of a different section of the city, which can be confusing!)

Candidate registration is at Deira International School between 7 - 8 am on Friday 15 February.

Special arrangements can be made to cater for the needs of any candidates who, because of inescapable professional commitments, have to arrive late at the fair or leave early.

Candidates usually complete their interviews at some point on Saturday. Make sure you leave plenty of time on Saturday to complete all related business. The Fair closes at 6pm on Saturday.

Candidate invitations for our 2019 Dubai Job Fair

Candidates should ask their associate well in advance of the fair for an invitation to register.  Online registration should be done as early as possible, ideally between September and January 2019.

The absolute final deadline for candidate registration is Sunday 10 February 2019.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES WHEN A JOB IS OFFERED

FOR CANDIDATES: WHAT YOU SHOULD DO BEFORE ACCEPTING A JOB OFFER

Dear Search Candidate

Accepting a position at an international school is an important decision for you and, if applicable, your family. Search member schools provide thorough information about their school composition, salaries, benefits and visa regulations and requirements on our website. Before accepting a position, we urge you to do careful research about the school, its country, and whether this seems like a good fit for you. In addition to reviewing the information available in the Search database, peruse the school’s website and if possible, ask for a "guest" login to the community portion so you can see information provided for parents and faculty. We also recommend asking to speak to one or two teachers who are in a similar family status to you.

The contract should clearly lay out the contract period (including number of work days), workload, benefits, and as close as possible, the position you will be assuming.

When a school recruiter offers you a position, you should ask the following:

  • "Just to be sure, are you definitely offering me a position?"
  • "To help me confirm the details of this offer, would you please provide the contract or a sample contract?"
  • "Would you please confirm this offer in writing, by email to me, copied to my Senior Associate, within the next hour or two? I will then be happy to email my answer to you, copied to my Senior Associate, by the agreed deadline of X hours from now." [This implies that the offer is made at a fair, and that at least a sample contract has been provided. The text and time limits might be modified for offers made outside of fairs, but should remain equally clear.]

The questions below can be used for guidance when reviewing the offer and sample contract. Be sure that you have read all available information (Search website, school website and any documents provided by the school) before asking the school to answer any of these questions.

OVERALL TIPS BEFORE SAYING YES

Take your time with your response. You will be given a time frame for responding to the offer. Most schools will give you a few days in which to make a decision. If the time is not long enough, and you are uncertain, politely request a bit more time. If the school is unwilling to give you that time, think long and hard before accepting the offer. You MUST feel comfortable when saying yes…because that’s where you’ll be spending the next two years.

WHEN IN DOUBT...If the situation becomes confusing or not what you expected talk to your Associate…that’s why we’re here!

Festival City is, in normal traffic conditions, only 15 minutes from Dubai International Airport. Festival City is blessed with 3 hotels:

The Holiday Inn:          PSB Search Associates

The Crowne Plaza:       https://book.passkey.com/gt/217234145?gtid=39f6425cf63ade31ed3b277c23133327

The Intercontinental:  https://book.passkey.com/gt/217234141?gtid=b35c1abcffd8e4fadc9f142efb1d3131

Be especially mindful that these hotels have other branches in the city. Make sure you book the FESTIVAL CITY branch!

There are many other hotels that are in the vicinity. A quick search will show you a wide range of possibilities. For example, you might want to check booking.com:

https://www.booking.com/searchresults.en-gb.html?aid=356980;label=gog235jc-landmark-XX-ae-dubaiNfestivalNcity-unspec-it-com-L%3Aen-O%3AosSx-B%3Asafari-N%3Ayes-S%3Abo-U%3Asalo-H%3As;sid=8e9cd3cd213b1300864b9db18196cd97;atlas_src=lp_map;landmark=19218&;map=1#map_opened)

Cheaper (at the time of writing) alternatives within 5 km of Festival City include, amongst others: Arabian Park Hotel, Nihal Palace Hotel, Rove City Centre, Rove Healthcare City, Reflections Hotel, Copthorne Hotel, Somewhere Hotel Apartment, Royal Continental Hotel, Tulip Creek Hotel Apartments, Ramee Royal Hotel.

If you head to Deira the prices are cheaper still, and the hotels are still close to Dubai International Airport. However, Deira is a little further from Festival City - around 7km.

Room sharing

Candidates interested in possibly sharing a room at the Holiday Inn with another single candidate, in order to reduce costs, should contact Bill Turner well in advance of the fair. We will put you in direct contact with other candidates of the same gender who are interested in sharing, in order that you can then make the arrangements yourselves.
