Seoul International School – Academic Director of Schools


Seoul International School (SIS) requires the services of an Academic Director of Schools for the 2014-2105 school year.  This is an initial three-year appointment.


School Background

SIS is a Pre-K-12  1,100  student, secular, not for profit school and the second oldest international school in South Korea.  It is renowned for providing outstanding educational service to foreign students and Korean nationals for the past 40 years.


SIS is a highly academic school, offering a rigorous US standards-based curriculum designed to prepare students for entry into some of the best colleges and universities worldwide. 


Additionally, the school is committed to providing outstanding learning opportunities in fine arts, humanities, athletics and community service as part of a complete and well-balanced educational program.   Through its TIGERS values the school emphasizes the development of all students’ intellectual, creative, moral, physical and emotional potential. 


The Position
The Academic
 Director of Schools reports to the Chairman and is responsible for all aspects of day-to-day academic operations within the school.

Educational Leadership

Leads the school in developing and achieving its mission and school improvement plan


Recruits, trains, and retains outstanding teaching and administrative staff

Budget and Facilities

Coordinates the development of the K-12 annual budget

Advises the Chairman on short and long-term facility priorities


Communicates and informs all of the school’s goals, policies and programs.

Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents and the school community

Minimum Qualifications

Significant prior administrative experience in a senior school management position

Knowledge and experience working within the Korean culture

Administrative certification or equivalency

Masters degree in educational administration or equivalent

Desired Qualifications

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to understand, appreciate and incorporate a variety of competing values and perspectives

Comfortable using technology to support administrative efficiency

Patience and a sense of humor

Ability to manage effectively in a changing international educational landscape in Korea
