Job Title: Assistant Principal


Reports to: K-12 Principal


Supervises: Assigned academic and administrative support staff


Location: The International School of Port of Spain, Westmoorings, Trinidad and Tobago, W.I.





ISPS is a prestigious Pre-school 3 to Grade 12 International School committed to providing a holistic and globally-minded education. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Principal to provide support in overseeing the academic, administrative, and student-centered operations of the School.





Collaborate with faculty to ensure the development and execution of a comprehensive, international curriculum aligned with educational standards and best practices. Currently, this curriculum is the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP), Middle Years Program (MYP), and Advanced Placement (AP)/ISPS High School programs and expertise in these programs is desirable


Lead and support leaders in student life, experiential, and service learning with the goal of providing a holistic and empowering educational experience for all students, in and out of the classroom.


Monitor and evaluate curriculum effectiveness, making data-driven recommendations for enhancements and improvements.


Provide instructional support to teachers, fostering a culture of excellence in teaching methodologies and student engagement.


Conduct regular classroom observations, offering feedback and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices.


Support the implementation of programs aimed at student academic achievement, character development, and well-being.


Oversee student disciplinary matters in accordance with school policies, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.


Evaluate and supervise school personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth, and achieving overall objectives of the School's curriculum.


Coordinate professional development initiatives for faculty and staff, identifying training needs and organizing workshops or seminars.


Assist in the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of teaching staff, contributing to a high-performing and motivated faculty team.


Collaborate with parents, fostering strong relationships and communication channels to ensure their involvement in the educational process.


Represent the school in community events and engage with external stakeholders to promote the school's mission and values.


Facilitate communication (oral and written) between personnel, students, and/or families for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving conflicts.


Support the Principal in administrative tasks, such as scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation, ensuring efficient school operations.


Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes in alignment with the school's vision and goals.


Balance a proactive and responsive approach to student behavior, working in collaboration with counselors, coordinators, teachers, and the principal. This will include overseeing areas of child safety, pastoral care/social-emotional learning, and establishing guidelines and expectations for appropriate student behavior with the goal of maintaining an academic environment conducive to student achievement.



Education and Related Work Experience:


Master's degree in Education Leadership (preferred)


Successful completion of a principal licensure program will be considered an asset.


Teaching certification and a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in an international school setting.


A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in an educational setting, preferably as a department head or in an administrative role.

Strong decision-making, analytical, and organizational skills.


Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and multicultural environment.

Advanced skill in dealing with students and staff with diverse needs at various levels.


Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.


Ability to manage multiple priorities.


Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace; follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel.


Operating knowledge of and experience with educational technology and 21st-century learning.
