DEFINITION OF LEARNING

An international, not-for-profit, coeducational day school with 700 students aged 3-19 years, BIS is a flourishing and diverse IB World School serving students from 76 different nationalities. The school is located in a beautiful, purpose-built campus with world-class facilities on the banks of the Rhine River.
BIS is a dynamic school accredited by CIS, NEASC and authorised to offer the IB PYP, MYP and DP. A positive, forward-looking and vibrant community, BIS offers a high-quality, internationally recognised curriculum delivered in English and framed within a caring, multicultural community.
Bonn International School is a self-funding, non-profit association registered in Germany and governed by a Board of Trustees. It was founded in 1997 as a result of the merger of the former Bonn American High School, American Elementary School and British High School after the capital of Germany moved from Bonn to Berlin. The school moved into its current campus on the banks of the River Rhine in 2007 and added further buildings in 2012 and 2016 to serve the increase in enrolment.
The Leadership Team currently consists of the Director, two Principals, the Business Manager and the Head of Student Services and Operations.
The BIS NEASC Accreditation Report from September 2019 stated:
“We found Bonn International School to be a remarkable place for learning where there is a pervasive culture of innovation, collaboration, and community amongst all stakeholders.

BIS promotes a school wide culture of feedback, reflective dialogue and professional growth. Some recent new initiatives have been a focus on developing entrepreneurial skills, outdoor learning, and improving student well-being.
BIS has an open and inclusive admissions policy, strong IB DP results and a thriving co-curricular programme ranging from athletics to music, drama, dance and technology.
The school comprises two sections. The Primary School includes an Early Learning Centre for children from the ages of 3 – 5 with an emphasis on learning through play and continuous provision. Following on from Early Learning are Grades 1 to 5. All students in Primary follow the IB PYP, and are supported by two learning support teachers, EAL teachers and a school counsellor.
The Secondary School comprises Grades 6 to 12, with students in Grades 6 to 10 following the IB MYP, which culminates in eAssesments. Students are also offered a choice of electives including Band, Coding, Mother Tongue, Sports Leadership. Students in Grades 11 and 12 follow the IB DP. All students are supported by two social and emotional counsellors, a Careers Guidance Counsellor, a Learning Support team and EAL teachers.

Bonn is the birthplace of Beethoven and has a wide range of cultural offerings related to Beethoven and beyond. Bonn International School is seeking a dynamic and future-oriented Director from August 2022. BIS is recognized as a quality educational organisation committed to the highest standards of the intellectual and personal development of its students, inspiring and empowering them to become globally minded, responsible citizens. The school is seeking a Director who will lead its ambitious growth goals in both increasing admissions and delivering an outstanding educational quality.
The right candidate combines an innovative and entrepreneurial mind-set with a proven track record in driving academic excellence and building a strong community. Also responsible for the school’s finances, resources and staff, the Director brings financial aptitude for the long-term sustainability of the school, whilst maintaining a strong profile in the local and international communities.
ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS
Is aligned to both the school mission of “Inspire. Empower. Achieve.” and the school’s values and strategic goal of being the leading English-speaking school for 3-18-year olds in the region.
Is able to deliver high-level academic and personal achievement within the framework of the BIS commitment to an inclusive education.
Is empathetic, ethical, solution-orientated and collaborative, while decisive when needed.
Has the strategic agility to anticipate future trends and their consequences and link operational tasks to the school’s overall strategy in a well-organised and technologically adept manner.
Has excellent management, motivational and communication skills to create a positive working atmosphere and commitment through shared ownership and visibility.
Has planning skills to anticipate problems and adjust work programmes accordingly; thereby ensuring achievement of outputs within agreed timelines and resources.
Has the ability to work effectively and build consensus with diverse stakeholders, including government authorities, organisations, the Works Council and the Board of Trustees.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Graduate Degree (Master’s degree as a minimum) in education management, administration or related fields.
A minimum of five (5) years proven track record in international educational and managerial leadership, which includes a proficiency in operational, budgeting and financial management.
Proven track record in implementing innovative and forward-looking pedagogic practices and approach to education that inspire students and empower teachers.
Evidence of successful staff recruitment, development and mentoring.
Experience of, and a commitment to, growing admissions and developing the school’s profile in a competitive market.
Experience with extensive technology for communications and multi-faceted digital learning.
Programme and leadership experience with IB Programmes.
The ability to speak German would be an advantage but not essential.
