Position: Executive Director for Learning and innovation

The International Community School of Addis Ababa is seeking an exemplary, experienced educational leader for office learning. The Executive Director for Learning and Innovation is a key member of the school’s collaborative Leadership Team. The Executive Director serves as the educational leader in creating a highly effective learning progressive program. S/he is responsible to assist the school in achieving the school’s mission, vision and strategic objectives. This includes, but is not limited to, managing and supporting: curriculum, instruction, and assessment; schoolwide programs; professional development; accreditation and strategic plan implementation; reporting progress, and development of new programs and systems.

The International Community School of Addis Ababa is a premier early childhood through grade 12 school offering a holistic, rigorous and inclusive program, ensuring students learn how to learn.

ICS Addis offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma and Primary Years programs and serves a diverse, multicultural student body on a beautiful, well-equipped campus. ICS is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools and the Middle States Association of Colleges and is a candidate IB Middle Years Programme ( MYP) school aiming to be authorized by February 2023.

We are a private, not-for-profit day school serving the families of the diplomatic, aid and multinational business communities in Ethiopia. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • A Masters degree in curriculum or educational leadership with a minimum of five years of experience in curriculum development
  • certification in school administration
  • An understanding of PYP, MYP and IBDP programs combined with a clear vision of personalized learning, Professional Learning Communities and student agency.
  • Experience as both a school visit member for IB or CIS and as a school accreditation coordinator.
  • Experience as a curriculum leader, including in; assessment, curriculum change management, data collection and analysis.
  • A track record of successfully working with educators to improve teaching and learning.
  • Experience working in an inclusive learning environment.
  • A demonstrable, clear vision for a holistic, 21st century educational program that ensures personalized learning experience for students
  • Experience in developing the use of technology to support learning.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and involvement in Concept-based teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, respectfully and firmly with Principals, Coordinators and other educators.
  • Proven ability to use initiative, to think strategically and to adopt an active approach to problem solving
  • Ability to see the big picture as well as the ability to take care of the small details and bring tasks to completion on time.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues to ensure a comprehensive assessment scheme is in place school wide, including external assessments, and common and authentic internal assessments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Able to apply a variety of leadership styles appropriate to situations
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, supportive relationships, to participate on and to build collaborative teams and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
  • Experience managing change in a rapidly changing or growing school environment
  • Reasoning ability: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and interpret a variety of technical instructions.
  • Direct experience with Professional Learning Communities
  • Experience in a standards-based grading learning environment.
  • Experience designing personalized learning experiences for students.
  • Understand basic accounting principles.
  • Skills and ability to apply school educational and leadership strategies and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to working as a member of the Leadership Team
  • Demonstrated understanding of current educational trends including effective instructional design and assessment practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational uses of software systems
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a positive school climate for students, staff and community

The Executive Director is expected to be a leader that

CONTRACT AND COMPENSATION

The initial contract will be for three years and the initial contract will be from July 2023 until June 2026.  Our administrator salary and benefits package is competitive internationally and will be commensurate to the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Addis Ababa enjoys a relatively low cost of living, and there are no local taxes on salary or benefits. In addition to a base salary that allows considerable discretionary income, we provide furnished housing, an overseas-hire allowance (15%), matching retirement (10%), local utilities allowance, generous professional learning opportunities, a laptop reimbursement benefit, a school vehicle with a fuel allowance for personal and professional use, international family health insurance with vision and dental benefits, disability and life insurance, annual home leave, shipping/settling-in allowance, and free tuition for school age dependents. There are limited employment opportunities within Addis Ababa for a non-teaching spouse.

The administrator’s contract is for 207 days and shall be entitled holidays established annually as holidays for the school less 15 days where s/he is expected to be on duty.  Other types of leave include professional leave (usually for conferences or recruiting), sick leave, bereavement leave, etc.
