KICS Seeks a New Head of Primary
For August 2022
Head of Primary School (PYP)
The School Environment and Context
As a long standing CIS accredited and IBDP and PYP authorized school, the first in the Sudan, KICS is the school of choice for expat/diplomatic/UN and local businesses and organisations families wanting an international, world-class, education for their children that will facilitate transitions to national/international systems or overseas universities.
Since the establishment of our new campus in August 2005, the roll climbed steadily to a pre-pandemic high of around 430. Currently we are just over 300 and rising, with 150 students in the Primary). Our IB Diploma programme has flourished since our first small intake of 17 DP students in 2007 to over 50 students in the programme this year. The school's admissions policy is designed to ensure both an international mix and a generally high level of academic ability within the student body but there is also a direction towards greater inclusion. Such is our commitment to a diverse student population we admit no more than 50% of any given nationality in any grade level (with the exception of the IB DP). This has led to our school enjoying a mix of more than 50 nationalities.
The 2021-22 academic year will be the 17th year in our school’s history and was the first year to gain a 45 point Diploma. The school's expansion from the English-medium Infant School known as Hai El Matar has been rapid, with KICS now catering for students aged 3 to 18, Pre-K (Little KICS) to Grade 12 (Year 13). Our aim is to provide a complete educational experience of the highest quality from the age of 3 to 18 - but to do that we need educators who seek personal and professional excellence, enthusiasm and sense of mission.
Perhaps the most exciting development in recent years has been the introduction of Professional Learning Communities (DuFour) for the faculty, and an increasing, technology-facilitated, drive to personalised learning and Student Agency. Teachers joining KICS can look forward to working in a well-resourced, supportive and extremely purposeful school. There is a strong sense of shared mission across all members of the community and a real feeling of doing something special. In “post-revolutionary” Sudan there is a renewed sense of optimism and pride in Sudan, making professional life even more rewarding as the school continues to help Build a Better Sudan.
The Primary School enjoys an excellent layout of subject classrooms, specialist learning spaces, gardens, and a central library, two floor learning hub. The spacious cafeteria adjoins a coffee shop is shared with secondary. The whole campus is shared with the Secondary and IB Centre, sports field, amphitheatre, 25m pool, tennis courts and gym. A short drive from the KICS campus are the Stables, on the banks of the Blue Nile, where there are horses for riding lessons, a mini farm, beautiful gardens for BBQ’s and a watersports area that can be used December-March (when the Nile is at its most tame).
The curriculum across the school is, or will soon be, IB. The PYP and DP programmes are well established and now we are aligning fully with the IB by replacing IMYC and IGCSE with the MYP. The PYP coordinator and curriculum coordinator (covering maths and English programmes too and is 100% non contact) is supported by a Literacy coach and Maths/Tech coach. By the end of 22-23 we will become an IB Continuum School. This will help transitions from PYP into Secondary MYP.
In 2020, through a community consultation process, we designed our Vision 2025 which strongly aligns with our Mission that was developed over 10 years ago and is more relevant than ever.
