Head of School / CEO
GEMS World Academy - Dubai
Required for August 2020

Trusted for over 55 years and now a third generation education family, GEMS Education began in a single school room in Dubai. Today, we have the privilege of educating over 190,000 students from over 176 countries through GEMS owned and managed schools globally and over 270,000 students access resources through our services division. The GEMS approach to learning is one which focuses not only on academic excellence but also on providing a values-based education to every child. A GEMS education helps students develop character, creativity, personal leadership and the spirit of enterprise necessary to achieve their full potential as global citizens and leaders of the future.

The School
GEMS World Academy-Dubai (GWA) is a private, co-educational IB World school for Nursery to Grade 12 students. Established in 2008 as a member of GEMS Education, the school is authorized to deliver the PYP, MYP and DP programmes and is also accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. All of its programmes are guided by the philosophy and framework of the IB. Its tagline is GWA=IB+.

The total student enrolment is 1500 students with a capacity of 2100, faculty strength of 160 teachers, 80 teaching assistants and 40 administration and support staff. Our student population comes from 90 different countries with no one nationality comprising more than 10% of the total population. GWA views its multicultural community as a source of learning as we develop an understanding of what makes people different, while celebrating our similarities in this increasingly connected world. GWA has had four graduating classes, the last three of which have been IB Diploma classes.

The school is fully inclusive yet has achieved very strong academic results moving its IB DP average from 30 to 34 in the past three years (with an expected score this year of close to 35). It is now the strongest Mathematics school in the UAE. Its graduates gain acceptance into the top universities in the world. It’s students regularly feature in podium positions in innovation and entrepreneurship challenges.

The school campus offers a number of world-class facilities, including a 400m rubberized athletics track, tennis courts, a 50m Olympic-sized swimming pool, a 620-seat auditorium, and an innovative early years facility.  Students access a broad range of student-centered learning experiences in this exceptional facility through the interaction with a multicultural and multilingual international staff of educators hailing from over 20 countries. The school is a centre of excellence for Entrepreneurship and has recently developed the largest language centre in the UAE.

The Head of School/CEO’s current Senior Leadership Team consists of three Division Principals (Elementary PreK to Grade 1, Grade 2 to 5 and Secondary Grade 6 – 12), three Assistant Principals and four IB Curriculum Coordinators (PYP, MYP and DP). This team drives the school’s development forward in a collaborative way while modeling the IB Learner Profile and GEMS Core Values; the cornerstones for character development at the school.

The next Head of School/CEO of GWA Dubai will:

  • lead all aspects of school improvement, including taking full responsibility for the school’s educational and academic success,
