The International School of Bologna

Seeks a new Head of School

Commencing, August 2014

The International School of Bologna (ISB) opened in September 2004 to provide an international education for children in Bologna and outlying areas.  It provides a learning environment with a clear mission to meet the needs of the children of internationally-minded parents through the medium of the English language.  There are statements of Mission and Philosophy which underpin the day to day operations of the school.

The school has, at present, a roll of over one hundred and eighty students and caters for children in Early Years, Elementary School and Middle School and expanded into High School in the 2013-14 school year.  During 2014-15, the school will open its second High School class and complete its candidacy phase for the IB Diploma Programme.

The school is governed by a Board of Directors. There is a Parents Association who meet on a regular basis to support the work undertaken by the school.

The school’s website is www.isbologna.com.

The International School of Bologna will be a premier, three programme (PYP, MYP and DP), IB World School expanding one grade level each year until we graduate our first students in June 2017. ISB will be the school of choice for internationally-minded parents in the Emilia-Romagna region and a leader of IB schools in Italy.

Our mission is to provide stimulating learning experiences through the medium of the English language, in which children of internationall- minded parents can develop the essential skills and knowledge required to make an active contribution as they take their place in our ever-evolving global society.

ISB is accredited by the Council of International Schools (2013) and is authorized by the International Baccalaureate in both the PYP and MYP programmes.  ISB is also a candidate school for the IB Diploma Programme.

Situated between the Po Plain and the foothills of the Apennine Mountains, the city of Bologna is the capital of the Emilia-Romagna Region and the seventh largest city of Italy. Famous for having the oldest existing university in the world, Bologna still hosts thousands of students contributing to the rich cultural and social life Bologna offers. The beautiful historical center of Bologna is characterized by long porticos and towers and is remarkably well-preserved. Another nickname that Bologna has acquired over the centuries is "the fat one" (la grassa) and refers to its rich cuisine. Its culinary tradition includes the famous Bolognese sauce which is among the local specialties you can enjoy in the many restaurants found in Bologna.

The school is staffed by qualified and experienced teachers, including teachers in the specialist areas of Art, Music and Physical Education. The Early Years classes and Grade 1 teacher are assisted by Support Teachers.

ISB teachers are recruited both on overseas contracts and locally.  There are currently 25 full-time teachers and academic staff.

The students come from over twenty different countries, though the majority of students come from Italian families. 55% of the students come from Mother Tongue Italian families, 25% of our families have one Italian and one non-Italian parent and the final 20% come from families representing other different countries.

The International School of Bologna is a proprietary school. It is registered as a limited share company and carries the initial SRL (Società a Resposibilità Limitata) used to designate a limited share company registered within in Italy.

The school is governed by a board. The ISB Board has overall legal and financial responsibility for the school.
