About the School
Ecole Mondiale World School is a privately-owned international day-school located in the central Indian city of Mumbai. The school occupies a unique place in the history of the International Baccalaureate in India as it was the first school in India to run all three programmes of the IB.
Starting with an enrolment of less than 200, the student body has steadily grown to around 600 students, with future enrolments expected to reach approximately 800. The school celebrates its tenth anniversary in July 2014.
Governed by a board of eminent people from business and academia, the school aims to provide a first class, broad-based international education to local and international students. EMWS highly values its professional faculty and places great emphasis on the training of its staff, not only in the IB and IGCSE programmes, but also in broader educational developments. Since its inception, the school has developed a reputation for the support of the IB in India and has hosted more IB workshops than any school in South Asia.
The school enjoys excellent facilities which include spacious and well equipped classrooms, dedicated science and design technology laboratories, art and music rooms, separate Primary and Secondary libraries, IT room, lecture room, swimming pool, sports ground, PE practice rooms, cafeterias and an auditorium.

Mumbai is the fourth largest city in the world and is India’s commercial hub. It is a thriving metropolis with all the energy and colour expected of an Indian city. Mumbai lies on the west coast of India and has a deep natural harbour. It is also the wealthiest city in India, has the highest GDP of any city in South, West or Central Asia and is a significant global economic city.
The school is located in the prominent suburb of Juhu, approximately 30-35 minutes from the city centre and close to the wide sandy beaches of Mumbai. The Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport lies a short 25 minute drive away.
Approximately 20 different nationalities are represented in the student body. The majority of students are Indian nationals, although more than 20% have lived overseas for a number of years prior to returning to India.
Most students are multi-lingual although, most commonly, English is their primary language. The school community mostly comprises families from business and professional backgrounds.
Faculty, Administration and Management
The school has a staff of 90 full time Indian and expatriate teachers. The student / teacher ratio is 6:1. For school is divided into a primary (Early Childhood to grade 5) and a secondary section (grade 6 to grade 12).
The Leadership Team comprises the Principal, the Head of Primary and the Head of Secondary. The individual academic programmes are managed by an ELC co-ordinator, PYP co-ordinator, MYP co-ordinator, DP co-ordinator and also an IGCSE co-ordinator, while academic departments, organised according to the curriculum design of the relevant IB programs, are managed by Heads of Departments.
EMWS is a privately owned international school authorized by the International Baccalaureate and by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
The school also has associations with the University of Bath, and is a member of the European Council of International Schools (ECIS), the Council of International Schools (CIS), the South Asia International Baccalaureate Schools Association (SAIBSA), the Association of International Schools in India (TAISI), and is an associate member of North East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools (NESA).
EMWS operates a full-day program with classes taught in English. All students follow the International Baccalaureate from Early Childhood to Grade 12. Students in Grades 9 & 10 also prepare for IGCSE exams.
The academic program is complemented by a sports and co-curricular program. There is a strong commitment to the support of ESL and SEN students. The school also provides strong support for students through our Counselling department.
The successful candidate will report to the Head of the school, be an outstanding leader who uses his/her effective communication skills to achieve understanding of and commitment to all stakeholders in the school’s community. He/She will demonstrate strong pedagogic background, exhibit developed interpersonal skills with all stakeholders, possess native level English skills and relish spending time with students and teachers. He/she will value individual strengths, as well as respect cultural difference, and provide strong leadership to achieve the school’s mission. The ability to build teams and encourage faculty to achieve their potential is paramount in this role.
A member of the school’s SMT, he/she will collaborate with the Head of School, Head of Primary and programme coordinators to implement the mission of Ecole Mondiale through strategic planning and administration of the school’s programmes.
The successful candidate will have:
- Graduate degree in education
- Proven track record of success as a school leader
- Extensive experience in a culturally diverse school environment, preferably in propriety international schools
- Experience in collaboration with governing boards, faculty, parents and wider community groups and agencies
- Sound knowledge of, and experience in, DP & MYP of International Baccalaureate.
- Some exposure to/experience in working as section/school head of private/proprietary school and experience as DP/MYP coordinator

Terms and Conditions
The Board seeks to appoint a Head of Secondary for a three-year contract in the first instance. Salary and benefits are competitive and will reflect the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
