American International School Vietnam seeks an IB Middle Years Programme Coordinator for August 2021.

 

Located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, American International School Vietnam (AISVN) is an independent, proprietary co-educational Early Years to Gr. 12 IB continuum school with around 1,270 students.

 

Founded in 2006, AISVN has evolved into a high quality IB School over the past 14 years, with an excellent reputation. The strength of AISVN is our strong cultural tie to our host country, with a student body of over 90% Vietnamese students.  These students are supported by a diverse 95% international faculty.  The school is located to the south of Ho Chi Minh City on a beautiful purpose-built campus on 6.5 hectares. AISVN is a non-selective school offering PYP, MYP and DP curriculum that provide academic rigor, and personal growth. The school is authorized to offer the PYP and DP programmes and is a candidate school for the IB MYP.

Our Faculty

All teachers and administrators are fully certified and qualified in their various fields, with many having advanced degrees in education and receive specific professional development to teach the IB programmes. Our teachers have a strong work ethic, a positive outlook and are dedicated to creating a professional learning community at AISVN.

 

The Position:

AISVN is searching for an MYP Coordinator who will continue to lead the staff, students and parents in high quality teaching and learning at a growing IB continuum school. The Secondary School is seeking MYP authorization in Fall of 2021, following two years of candidacy.  Our next MYP Coordinator will be required to inspire, shape, and lead the school community as we further develop the MYP from candidacy to our next phase of improvement and growth.

 

This person should be willing to actively support professional growth and build teacher capacity within all staff and continue to focus on delivering to students a well-rounded holistic education within the MYP framework. AISVN is seeking an experienced leader who has an excellent understanding of a constructivist approach to learning in the MYP and a collaborative and innovative mindset.

 

The School

The school currently has 1,270 students, with 600 students in Elementary (Early Years - Grade 5) and 670 students in Secondary (Grades 6 - 12) with steady growth each year. We have well-resourced classes of appropriate size and a safe purpose-built learning environment where students receive considerable attention within the classroom.  The Elementary School was granted full authorization of the PYP in July 2020 and we have proudly offered a fully authorized DP since 2010.

 

With a student body that is 90% Vietnamese, we have carefully constructed the most comprehensive EAL program resourced with qualified EAL teachers serving every grade level. No other school in the city provides this level of support within their international program. Because our families stay with us longer than more diverse international schools, the students benefit greatly from our scaffolded EAL program and the level of English language ability is high throughout the school.  All students are tested into our programs using the WIDA to ensure they will be able to access the curriculum. The combination of student tenure with intentional EAL support has created a thriving community of highly motivated learners in all three IB programmes at AISVN.

 

The requirements for a successful candidate are:

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in teaching, learning and/or leading an IB MYP Programme.
  • Experience in leading people and leading teams
  • Academic qualifications, preferably at Masters level
  • A strong leader who can coach and foster professional growth
  • Experience and understanding of best practice in differentiation and inclusion
  • Experience of working with a diverse international community
  • Experience of accreditation/ evaluation processes

LIVING IN HO CHI MINH CITY

Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Viet Nam, located on the banks of the Saigon River in the South of the country.  The population of HCMC is more than 9 million people. It is centrally located in SE Asia within a 2-hour flight of Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines and a 1-hour flight to Cambodia, Singapore, and Thailand.

 

Ho Chi Minh City is a vibrant place to live and work.  The city center is still adorned with elegant boulevards and French Colonial architecture. Diverse international lifestyle includes cosmopolitan dining, shopping, and entertainment. While the cost of living in Vietnam is among the least expensive in Asia, lifestyle choices do affect the monthly costs incurred by each household. For many expatriates in Vietnam, however, the potential for savings is significant. Some teachers report saving 50-70% of their income.

Vietnam is one of the safest countries in the world regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.  The Vietnamese government was one of the first countries to create an effective track and trace system and the citizens have responded responsibly to mask wearing, social distancing and personal hygiene.
