WIS Mission Statement:

Westwood International School (WIS) provides a quality international education that enables students to meet future challenges as confident, socially responsible lifelong learners.

Westwood International School ( established in 1988, provides international education to children from Reception to Year 13.  The entire school has 575 students from 40 different countries.  The Primary School goes from Reception to Year 6 with 340 students and a total of 40 staff.

Westwood International School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World school offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB Diploma Programme). WIS is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). WIS is also a member school of the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA).

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a Primary Principal who is an inspirational leader. The successful candidate will be resilient, good humoured, able to inspire confidence in all Primary students, teachers and parents alike. The Primary School Principal will provide dynamic leadership in line with the IBO’s and the School’s mission statements.

Leadership and Management:

  • Organise the day-to-day running and operation of all aspects of the Primary School
  • Ensure effective communication and provide opportunities for collaboration throughout the Primary School
  • Build a collaborative learning culture within the Primary School
  • Actively engage with other sections of the school to build learning communities
  • Develop, motivate and lead all Primary staff to achieve the highest professional standards
  • Model the attributes of the IB learner profile
  • Maintain a high-profile presence throughout the school
  • Attend and support all whole-school events and activities
  • Develop and manage the Primary budget
  • Engage fully in all cycles of accreditation (including IB, NEASC and CIS)
  • Support, by way of ongoing staff appraisal, all teachers and teaching assistants in their professional growth
  • Regularly evaluate teacher performance and provide constructive feedback
  • Undertake other such duties as may be reasonably expected or delegated by the Head of School

Teaching, Learning and Curriculum:

  • Take full responsibility for all student learning within the Primary School
  • Work collaboratively with the PYP Coordinator and Leadership Team, to support the implementation of all Primary School activities
  • Ensure a consistent and continuous school-wide focus on pupil assessment and achievement
  • Review appropriate data to evaluate, monitor and track individual student progress
  • Support teachers in the development of a nurturing and caring environment for all students
  • Oversee the Primary extracurricular activity programme
  • Develop and implement strategies to continually improve all student learning within the Primary School

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational Leadership Experience preferably in an International School
  • Extensive knowledge of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP)
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership (preferred)
  • Experience in effective teacher supervision, evaluation, and mentoring
  • Experience and understanding of best practices in international education
  • Excellent Communication Skills
