Job Description
Job Title: Principal – Lower and Middle School
Reports to: Director – ISL UK
Deputised by: LL (G7-10)
Campus: Lower and Middle School
0. General
To provide leadership in the creation of an Action Plan
1. Leadership
- Chair of London SLT meetings
- To undertake annually, in liaison with the CEO, Director of ISL UK Schools, CAO and the SLT decisions about staffing, annual school schedule, budget and School Action Plan
- Develop a 5-year rationale for continuous development of the ICT administrative and communication tools
- Ensure that every member of staff adhere to a personal professional growth plan
- Develop a 5-year rationale for ISL participation in conferences
- Lead the development of the ISL Open World
2. Personnel
- Lead recruitment process and coordinate orientation and induction process
- Professional learning, internship and mentoring coordinator
- Monitor and appraise existent staff and coordinate evaluation of new staff
- Monitor covers, duties, attendance, and staff professional conduct
- Whole school Subject Coordinators line manager
3. Accountability
- Meet monthly with the UK Director to report and advise on all aspects of the London School
- Produce the London Annual Report and the London Annual Action Plan
- Ensure that accrediting agencies recommendations are actioned, that resources and professional capacity is adequate to meet the demands of the plan.
- Implement new or revised policies and review the London Procedures Manual
- Participant in the ISL Principal Forum
- To monitor effectiveness of SLT and review school meeting minutes
- Chair London Staff, PTA and Adm meetings
4. Academic Quality
- Conduct frequent teaching and learning observation
- Supervise Student Reports and Parent – Teacher conferences
- Evaluate the quality of feedback students receive, quality of assessment and reporting to parents on a two-year-cycle
- Ensure that information displayed in corridors and public areas of the school is relevant and up-to-date
- Facilitate professional learning, monitor quality of teaching and supervise coordinators.
- Review the Assessment procedures regularly
- Act on concerns about the quality of teaching and learning as quickly as possible
5.Chronology
- To manage the space, resources and personnel efficiently and effectively to ensure that it meets the needs of the curriculum and H&S regulations
- Set the London yearly calendar framework, the London annual calendar of staff meetings, parents meetings, reports, block weeks, in-service days and residential week
- Set annual events: Graduation, Sports Day, Special Events, School Photograph etc.
- Set staff teaching allocation, homeroom groups and sizes, teaching groups and G9-10 blocks of option choices
- Supervise duties and covers
6.Community
- Promote the school events to the outside community
- Establish partnerships with local schools
- Encourage cross campus development of curriculum material and curriculum policies (e.g. language, assessment, learning support and academic honesty policies)
- To establish an on-going relationship with local clergy, social services, fire office, local Member of Parliament, police force etc.
7. Administration
- Review of job descriptions, staff procedure manual and parents handbook
- Approve Student Handbook, PYP and MYP guides
8.Communication
- Ensure that the London marketing material reflects ISL identity and that the London advertisements are in line with ISL branding and identity
- Report to UK Director about Action Plan alignment to the wider Strategic Plan
- Review internal communication procedures regularly
- Chief Editor of the weekly School Newsletter
- Main link with Admin staff, PTA Chair and ECIS
- Responsible for visitors to the school
- Lead and oversee London Open Days / Evenings
9.Finances
- Create the London campus annual budget
- School operations budget, PD budget and Office budget holder
10. Care & Guidance
- In charge of whole school assemblies
- Track holistic progress indicators for all students
- Admissions supervisor
- Monitor behaviour at start and end of school day
- Child protection, risk assessment and H&S officer and liaise with external professional social services
- Arbiter of student grievances
- G10 and G5 Graduation Speech
Qualifications:
Essential
Fully qualified teacher, with either;
- BEd. or equivalent; or
- First degree plus post-graduate qualification in teaching
Desirable
- Leadership and management training
- Masters in Education or similar
Experience:
Essential
- A minimum of ten years teaching experience
- Able to demonstrate success in school leadership and change management
- Significant experience as a Principal, Vice-Principal or other Senior Leadership post
- Evidence of success in: building, leading, motivating and developing teams and individuals
Desirable
- Experience with IB PYP and/or MYP or other international educational programmes
- Experience of working in an international setting
- Experience in monitoring and improving learning at a school level

- to be acknowledged as an outstanding educator and educationalist
- to demonstrate good judgment, and possess a proven track record in pastoral and academic management
- to communicate well with colleagues, pupils and parents
- to show leadership and creativity, contributing to the development of the school as a whole
- to set an example as a first-rate teacher, a hard-working colleague and through involvement in out of school events
